radio static during playback

So um.......after having played TOAW with no background music or sound effects I finally got around to turning on the background to combat noises and sound effects 'on'. And now whenever I watch the playback of my opponents turn (PBEM game) every once in an infrequent random while I'll get a burst of "radio static" instead of a sound effect. It's only about a second in length and comes in random non-standard time periods and isn't really all that annoying but I'm wondering what I did to cause it or what I can do to make it go away. During the game the music plays fine and the sound effects are good but again once or twice per turn I'll get a burst of "radio static" instead of sound effect. Thanks ahead of time. By the way, this forum is tremendous. I should know.

Oh, and I'm running SoundMax HD Audio 0 for a sound card.
