Night surface raids, how to implement them?

Post by SqzMyLemon »

What's the best way to launch an attack against a port or another surface TF during a night turn? My attacks never seem to make it to the intended target at full speed in time, or end up refueling midway to the target. I know there's a way, but so far I just seem to be on the receiving end of it. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

1. Be sure you will have enough fuel to get there and back with full speed (or use ships with larger fuel tanks)
2. Set up your TF as SCTF or Bombard, speed setting to "Mission speed", retire to "Retirement allowed"

If you are attacking a port (or other fixed target) I would also set your reaction range to "0" and set your TF routing to "Direct"...

They can end up somewhere you want them to end, or will decline to move to the target because calculations will reveal there is not enough fuel to do it, or TF will try to refuel instead of move ... [:)]

It's good to know setting the TF to "full speed" may be the reason for the operations not happening as planned due to refueling issues. I will try my next operation set to "mission speed" and see what happens. Thanks for the comments. I do hope I get this figured out to utilize the better night fighting abilities of the Japanese fleet.

Setting the Bombardment TF to mission speed will order the TF to approach and set up for a high speed approach/attack/beat feet under cover of darkness.  Setting the TF to full speed will order the TF to get there regardless of the time of day to execute the attack (if it has the fuel to get there and back).

Also usefull:
1. select Home base closer to target. This will lower fuel needed to return calculation
2. Use ships with longer legs
3. have AO in position to refuel before run into enemy territory
