A mass ton of the CVE's are named after battles as well. And, a crap ton of DD's are named after dead WWII officers/men.

You'd have to allow renaming of all ships or put an II after all ships, if you wanted to rename any ship that might have a WWII historical name.

Yes, put a II after the ship's name in the editor. When you then select it in the reinforcement queue, it's name will show yellow and can be changed.

Miller is being coy here - he actually wants to name his carriers the Lady Gaga and the Anna Kournikova.

Perhaps to keep it realistic you should name unbuilt US carriers after US presidents.  After all there is a CVN Ronnie Regan and also a Dwight D Eisenhower and even a John F Kennedy.
Oddly enough though there don't seem to have been any carriers named after Jimmy Carter, or Richard Nixon,  or Bill Clinton,  or either of the Bushes.  Funny that,  don't you think?

The crew of this fine lady must be horribly confused then:

Oh, also forgot, Jimmy Carter got a Seawolf-class submarine. Fitting, as he was a nuclear-trained submarine officer.

Thanx,  sorry I wasn't aware of that.
Sorry that the JFK has been decommissioned, is it going to be scrapped, mothballed, sold to the Chinese or what?

Actually, that was a relatively new process. Even though Rompin' Rosey was named after FDR, most of the rest until CV67 followed the principal of famous ships or battles (except of course, CV59 - Forrestal.) Personally, naming the CVs after presidents is crass, at best, and a political ploy, which means it's not only crass, but pragmatic. So much for 200 years of tradition unhampered by progress.

/agree

Naming a ship after someone who is alive is very lame, in addition to the other reason's you've listed. Pretty soon support ships will be named after senators, congresspersons and govenors.

Lame lame lame. Bring back the cool historic ship names.

There have been lots and lots of real, front-line combat ships,. even CVNs, named for congresscritters.
As Adm. Rickover said when they stopped naming SSNs after sea life: "Fish don't vote."

I agree that it is lame to name ships after a living person with one exception, the USS Bob Hope, he deserved it. (I believe he was still alive when it was commissioned)
