New beta patch

Post by tykemalcolm »

After installing the latest beta patch, I'm getting a message saying that Direct3DX9 is not installed.
Everything works prior to applying the patch. I checked this by uninstalling the base game and reinstalling again - the game started.
I am using VISTA 64bit.
Any ideas what happened?

Thanks - I tried earlier, but my security software is blocking the site.
I followed the instructions to unblock the site, but still no luck.
So now I'm waiting for a response from the security software vendor [:)]

I'm not sure about the issue you're having - normally that would not happen as the result of an update. I would try reinstalling DirectX 9 as a fix. We'll have more info once our production team is back to work and we can look through and test the beta update here. See my post here for more info:

Thanks - I appreciate any help you can give.
However according "dxdiag" I'm on Directx 11.
The only update I've done is to the game.

You need to have the August 2009 version of DirectX. I thought this was going to be included in the update, but you can dl it from microsoft

So you are saying that I need to go back to DirectX 9?
I'm currently running Vista 64bit with DirectX 11.
Also, I'm completely up to date with updates.

DirectX11 I believe does not include DirectX 9, which is why you need to install it additionally. There are also many versions of DirectX9, and the error message indicates you don't have that particular one needed. But don't worry, all the versions of DirectX co-exist togehter quite happily, so updating won't affect your DirectX11

Correct, you don't need to "go back" to DirectX 9, you just need to add those files in.

Once we have our installer of the beta patch ready, it will do this automatically.

Ah!! I see - I did not realize that they could co-exist.
However, here is a posing question ----
When I install version 1.0.1 from the CD, the game works fine.
I install the patch, and I'm missing DirectX9.
How did it get deleted in an unzip install ?

The patch needs a later version, that wasn't included with version 1.0
