Cassus Belli
Cassus Belli
I've read that you can play and win as a peaceable race, and I've also read analogies to the EU series. Can anyone declare war at any time for no reason, or do you have to have justification?

On some older videos I see name of your empire goverment. In this case that was monarchy.
Then yeas I am almost in 110% sure that you can choose and change your goverment.
Another good thing I see was war weariness idicator.

You can declare war on anyone at anytime with no reason. Much of the testing I've done is to start a Quick game and declare war on every race. That's some fast action!

There are a bunch of government types and you can choose any of them.

This brings up another point. How close is it to EU? I've looked at that and although I liked how it worked, the complexity was too much. Reading the forum, it looks like DW doesn't have a difficult, complex learning curve. Or does it?

Well lets see... I have a ton of hours into EU. I guess there are similarities, but I like DW a lot more. DW has a lot to explore. DW is much deeper as far as things to do. DW does not have a complex learning curve. However, it is an involved game. It's really hard to describe as there are no other games like it to compare with. DW will break new ground. It's unique. I didn't help you much here and I'm sorry for that, but I'm lost for words. [8|]
I assume you meant EU3. Although I have lots of time in EU2 and EU3.

Why does the word ambiguous come to mind? [:D]
It sounds like one of those games that's easy to learn how to play but can be deep to learn to play well. Does that sound about right?

Vague, yes. I was. I have had trouble describing the game every time I try.
That is a very good way to put it. You got it spot on.

Should I try EU3, how much time does it take to get into the game? How tedious is it?

You can declare war whenever you want, but don't expect that others will forget it. If you play as a backstabbing warmonger, you can expect the other factions to treat you as such. I completely tanked my reputation among the other races in one test game, generally playing as a complete #$&*&! and pretty soon I had just about everyone deciding the galaxy would be better off without me!

Of course you should try EU3. It is a good game.
It is not hard if you are familiar with other Paradox Interactive games. HOI family or Victoria An Empire under the Sun. If you starting playing for the very first time and you have no clue about games mentioned earlier, then at first glance EU3 is very daunting&tedious task.
First of all, like in every PI game you must be prepared to click, click and even more clicking and if you think that clicking is over... do some more clicking. [:D] There is a group of countries which are relatively easy to play at start (not at war with everybody around), of course country location determine how tough game is. Europe is easiest tech&religion&military wise, Eastern & Muslim group (Ottomans, Malmuks and other countries in the region) are rather tough if you don't know how game is working. And Asia (Japan, China etc) are completely no go for a newbie - serious challenge even if you know the game. Oh and most important thing. EU3 only with ALL expansions. Basic EU3 is rather dumb proposition (crazy AI).

I have fun doing the same. I start a "Quick fully developed large" game and declare war on everyone. Then I go into negotiations and ask for everything they have and offer nothing. Everyone gets ticked at me and they work like mad to remove my presence from the system. It's a blast! [:D]
Does good for testing for bugs too as it's a busy place.

RE: Cassus Belli
You have reputation which is like the Badboy system in EU and war weariness like in EU3.It is a shame that Cassus Belli is not needed for democratic govenments.
RE: Cassus Belli
I sometimes got tired of needing a Cassus Belli for war in the EU games. However it does keep things a bit proper.
It's fun to just declare war in DW. I thoroughly enjoy it. [:D]

I'm starting to lean toward buying this. I'm glad it doesn't have buildings on planets like galciv2. And I would prefer no cassus belli. I think the simpler the better. Easy to learn how to play and you can go as deep as you want or just play and have fun. That's the way it looks.

I too have the GalCiv2 series. I put a lot of hours in those games, but DW is a lot more fun. It's not the clickfest that most other space games are. You can set up a game to where it makes money, colonizes, and explores, all without doing very much. It's very different from others. The Advisers really make the game for me.
You can also go crazy in the game and aggressively go for the gusto and stay very busy. It's very versatile. [:)]

I hope it's easier to design and build ships. I never did figure that out in gc.
