Tokyo Rose (?) has been sniffing glue

Post by TulliusDetritus »

Hahahahaha, I love this part of the game [:)] You know that some events trigger some audio files... These events appear when a historically important base (in the real war that is) is attacked or captured: Singapore, Hong Kong, etc., etc.

The case is, we are on march 5th 1942. The miserable AKL Regulus (cargo capacity 1.700) is peacefully unloading in Midway (with NO escort at all, I know, my fault)... then two miserable Japanese DDs inspired by the most miserable AI terrorist (Andy Mac that is) appear and trash the poor AKL. It's Midway so this triggers an audio file! Tokyo Rose announces a great victory, two carriers plus one battleship and numerous cruisers and destroyers sunk... [:)]

One of these days pal you'll get into a battle....and lose 2 carriers, 1 battleship, and numerous cruisers and destroyers.

THEN you'll be sorry you mocked her![:D]

Funny I just had that posted the other day in another forum post I made, the KB was patrolling off Midway and sunk an AKL from midway - but one of my subs sank 2 Carriers and tokyo rose came on saying something about a huge victory.

Well I actually think that TR is a double agent & is actually telling you about what they lost...at least it seems that way in my game vs the AI as if I believe her reports about what I've lost to date, the last Nimitz class carrier has been sunk along w/ every BB/CA the US ever made whereas the sunk ships intel seems to show I've sunk that many IJ ships [:D]

I believe, that "the great naval victory" Tokyo Rose message is deliberately scripted to appear after the most minor of successes...

I got the same message in my PBEM after my opponent sunk my Soerajaba PT TF of 10 or so PT Boats. At the time, I was a bit WTF about it, but assumed it was a bit of tongue-in-cheek.

Win lose or draw, same message.[:D]

I've lost hundreds of CVs and BBs to the ever victorious forces of Japan accordeing to TR.[:'(]

The e-population of Japan must think they are fighting an arcade game foe. [:D]

My e-troops don't unload OVER THE BEACH anymore, see:
Amphibious Assault at Kota Bharu
TF 85 troops securing a beachhead at Kota Bharu, 51,75
whew! I still feel better.

I wrote the code to play those messages. Unfortunately, it isn't that sophisticated.

I thought it would be cool to ad some other news items, but we didn't have the audio for them. (Lots of audio exists, but most Allied recordings are still under copyright and we didn't have the budget to buy the rights.)

Well at least something was sunk. Once near Balikpapan one of my transport TF bump into enemy transport TF. Both evaded combat, and not a single shot was fired. And still Tokyo rose announces a great victory for the Empire... [:)]

It's a nice addition, shows the attention to detail and atmostphere thats been lavished on AE. Well worth the effort and thank you [&o]

copyright ?? from the mid 40's ? even official secrets act doesnt last that long ! who copyrighted allied radio transmissions ? and why ?? .. I cofess to being confused by this.
sorry for the spelling . English is my main language , I just can't type . and i'm too lazy to edit :)

The AI sent some BB's and cruisers to bombard Port Moresby, where they ran into and sank some PT boats of mine.  Good old Tokyo Rose came on the air to crow over that great victory the Japanese had just won; I had the same thing happen when a raiding party of cruisers sank some supply ships at Midway too.

I found it amusing that she didn't say anything when I sank two CV's off of Milne Bay a few weeks later though...

Although about a dozen english speaking females participated, including a Canadian, the most famous "Tokyo Rose" was Iva Toguri D'Aquino who was an American citizen! She tried to return to the US after the war, was arrested for treason, spent 6 years or so in jail and lived out her life in Chicago. She was later given a presidential pardon because "lies" were admitted as evidence at her trial [8|]. You can't make this stuff up if you tried [:D]

Some things never change in war, German pilots claimed to have shot down 3x more planes then the British had! One of the reasons they stopped attacking British airfields and lost the Battle of Britain.

In Vietnam, the nightly totals of enemy killed exceeded the total population of North Vietnam, one of the reasons the US military doesn't report total enemy killed even to this day!

Bill I'm glad ya'll added this kind of little easter egg (saw the leader too yes if you look into the leader db you'll see it [:'(]) into the game. How about just getting some guys together over a beer & record some general msgs for certain kind of victories? With all the mod talent around the forum is it as simple as some kind of mod or programming involved? Free beer will get anyone to do just about anything you want them to, a cattle prod works just as well [:'(]

Put it all down to Fog of War & confused/exadurated combat reports. Both sides but particularly the Japanese were notorious for over-inflating combat successes (and, more importantly, the top brass believeing them without verification/confirmation like at the Marianas Turkey shoot).
In addition to Tokyo Rose making a few over-zealous claims, Fog of War seems to be affecting the 'ships sunk' report file. I'm playing the Japanese and according to my subs have sunk the Pennsylvania no fewer than six times during its rabbit-like run from PH back to San Francisco (and it had already been badly damaged on Dec 7th). If the accoutns/reports are accurate (just been looking back over them) it has taken no fewer than 24 (yup!) torpedo hits and six bomb hits - wow! That's better than the Yamato and Musashi. Obviouslyt he US really made this a tough old bird. And I still don't think it's sunk, even now!!

I thought she tried to leave Japan immediately after war was declared, but she wasn't allowed to go; apparently Japan had other plans for her.

Admit it Misconduct, your whole strategy revolved around that one AKL...you have no hope of winning without it. [;)]
