Getting the Red Out - Removing IJN Coastwatchers

Post by Firebomber47 »

Having chased the IJN out of the bases of Rabaul and Kavieng, I was still having some problems with their bombers ranging south from Truk to ravage supply convoys plying the waters between these two formerly Jap bases. One useful technique that took away some of their 'eyes' that were reporting TF positions was to eliminate remaining islands that had those pesky red dots on them (i.e., allied to the Japs). The process is a simple one - send in a Fast Transport force carrying a Marine Raider unit and with P-38 long-range CAP overhead to keep the Jap bombers away (isn't it amazing how the AI knows when a human player has decent CAP over a convoy?) By operating two such strike forces, I was able to clean out every red-dotted hex in the waters around Rabaul and Kavieng in a couple of weeks, with no losses in ships or troops, and a noticeable drop in Jap air attacks on my convoys. It's the next best thing to using Visine to get the red out!
