Technology: Area Shields?

The descriptions read provides extra protections for missiles! Shouldn't that be extra protection from missiles?

Also shouldn't Shield Tech be changed to Defense to keep research the same as research buildings?

Well the main effect is to place a big defensive shield over your missile silos, though it can protect other items in it as well, so I think the description is reasonable. It protects against beams as well as missiles.
