Greetings from an old nube

Post by straggler13 »

I have been a military history buff since my days playing SPI's Wacht am Rhine and Atlantic Wall in the 70's. Although I have been away briefly playing popular shooters (FPS) I am very happy to be back in the thinking world of war gaming. At 50+ my eye-hand coordination was not up to snuff to beat the countless testosterone crammed 14 year old boys one must match 'wits' with in the FPS world....And besides, I missed the planning, thinking, more ...shall I say... more realistic illusions of world war strategizing I came to love in the Matrix wolrd. So, I am glad to be back with old but somewhat as yet unfamiliar friends.

I shall try to read as much in these forums as I can to get up to speed. But please forgive me if I ask any questions which may have already been thoroughly answered. I have been around this PC war gaming stuff for about fifteen years now and consider myself somewhat of and old grognard so I have perhaps forgotten far more than I know now.

So I will make my first question as painless as I can: Where can I find information on problems with command line switches? For WitPAE I mean.

Thanks in advance.
PS I am very much looking forward to this new old experience!

Sincerely, Greg,

The best place to post questions about a game is in its respective forum. There is oodles of stuff on the AE command line in the AE forum but please ask away!

And welcome.

Greg,

The command line switches for WITP AE are outlined in the game readme. For questions on them, definitely go to the WITP AE forum (just browse down the forum list until you see it).

RE: Greetings from an old nubecannot get the command line switches to work

Post by straggler13 »

Greetings,

I am new to WitPAE and am patched to .1102a and cannot get the command line switches to work.
I am running XP. When I try to add the switches per your instructions below, I get an error message and it will not allow me to proceed. Or it freezes my PC as soon as I right click the Start In box for War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition 2. This is the error message:
! The folder "C:\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition 2" specified in the Start In box is not valid. Make sure that the folder exists and that the path is correct." I have tried both the "target" window line and the "Start in" window line: neither works and they freeze the whole PC sometimes. Also, when clicking on Start box I will often get an error to the Internet Explorer app which asks me if I want to send out a report. If I select "no" then the whole system freezes; if I select 'yes' a report in sent to MicroSoft and then the OS freezes. So if I even attempt to right click on the Start box to select 'preferences' I get the error report option above...never getting to modify the Start line.

I have a dual core AMD w/ 2 x 8800 GTX cards. The game runs fine but I really dislike the font and would like to boot in a ( -w) window format so I might try to use the magnifier -if possible.

Can you help?

Thanks,
G.L. Martin

These below are the instructions I followed.
1. Right click to edit the Properties on the “Quick Start” shortcut to the game (located in your Start Menu folder for War in the Pacific: Admiral’s Edition).
Which means : Right click to edit the Properties on the “Quick Start” shortcut to the game (located in your Start Menu folder for War in the Pacific: Admiral’s Edition).
2. Do not edit the default desktop link, which points to an “autorun.exe” as that won’t work. You have to use the
Quick Start link which points directly to the game executable.
Which means: Do not edit the default desktop link, which points to an “autorun.exe” as that won’t work.
3. You’ll want to add these to the end of the “Target” field to get them to work.
For example, when you are done your target field could look like this:
"C:\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition\War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe" -wd -altFont -cpu2 -multiaudio -dd_sw -px1440 -py0900
Which means: You’ll want to add these to the end of the “Target” field to get them to work.
Sincerely,
