Another newb question - what is a "supply source province"

Maybe I should just have my own "dumb questions" thread instead of starting a new one each time I think of one, but here goes anyway. What exactly is a "supply source province?"

The manual doesn't define it on pp. 19-20 and suggests that supply depots can be built anywhere within one's own country, but if you play as Russia you'll soon find out otherwise. Istria, Moscow, Odessa, Kiev, and Sevastopol are the only ones I can think of that allow depots to be built. If you try building one in Bryansk, for instance, you are dismissed by one of our bewigged AI friends, who pouts and says that depots can only be built in (or adjacent to) a supply source province. What in blazes is he talking about?

There is never a dumb question! The only dumb questions are unasked!

Depots can be built in a line. But, it has to start at a supply source. A supply source has a brown circle surrounding the province. Once you build a depot there you can be build a line of depots off of it! They can then also be built through enemy territory, or through neutral territory as long as you can trace a line back to an original depot!

You can build just about as many depots as you can afford to build. Often times you build extras to try and avoid the enemy cutting any of your supply line! At any time that original supply source disappears, then any depots not connected to a supply source origin would then disappear. Hope this helps some![:)]

That's what I needed to know - I couldn't tell just by looking at the map how to tell a supply source province from any other kind, but this clears it up perfectly. Thanks again!

Look for the brown circle around the city of the province-depending on the zoom level, those can be difficult to notice.

A PS to the above, the circles will actually be in the colour of the controling nation, eg Brown for Austria Green for Russia; just in case a dotted broken cirlce denotes a Super- fortress.

Thanks y'all - soon as the circle was mentioned I looked and now I can distinguish a colored circle indicating supply from a gray or white circle.  Not sure the reason for that, but for example look at Courland province (Riga, I think).  I think part of my problem is that I'm playing the game on a laptop with all the mystery and adventure that a laptop screen brings with it.  It's hard to see the X's on the high attrition areas, for instance, but I've figured that part out as well.  It's starting to make sense, in other words - thanks for the help!
