Did the Artillery Rules Ever Get Changed?

Post by dravazed »

I just returned after being off the net for 5 months, and wondered whether there has been any discussion of the "improved" artillery rules--the ones that make mortars more deadly than opposing tanks. Am I the only one who finds these rules utterly inane?

Nothing you'll worry about, just to remedy the mortar issue mentioned above.

There will be NO drastic artillery rule changes as mentioned in the other thread for the next UPDATE.

Still hoping for an ETA for 1.05--I did some searching, but didn't find anything on this.

Best I can do is sometime this year. Probably closer to Christmas as the team and I are working hard on the Modern Wars: Volume I.

Please do implement a separate ammo level for artillery in the next update. That is a non-controversial improvement to the game.

If we are talking about the dice roll for ammo supply, I agree, it's not good.

No, we need 2 base ammo levels in the scn header. The one there is, and one extra for artillery. Artillery only draws supply from the base level. This doesn't work well in situations where armies had plenty of small arms ammo, but a shortage of artillery shells as was the case for the German army late in the war.
The workaround in scn design for that is a poor one, namely reducing the # of artillery tubes.
Mortars IMO should draw supply like regular units. That would be a second change.

Um...the net is not a necessity. Unlike East Front, which is.

Speaking of which--and this being the discussion of artillery and all--I just completed a mission in my current EF campaign...and 100% of my tank losses were from mortar fire. I'm really looking forward to artillery rules written by a sane person.

p.s. Mortars were more dangerous than T-34s. Who is the genius who thought this up?
