Consistent CTD and some observations

Post by Tormodino »

Hi!

Awesome game, but after a while it will crash to desktop giving the "Windows is sorry it messed up. Closing Program" message. I also had no music playing, but after installing media player 11 (per instructions in another post) I got that working. My system is bootcamp XP 32 on a macbook pro with newest directx, .net, realtek and nvidia drivers. Bootcamp haters can make comments elsewhere, but if you know of any bootcamp specific issues, please do tell.

I have noted a few things. They may or may not be relevant.
  • I can consistantly reproduce the crash shortly after loading a save.
  • I have not been able to crash the game before I make a save. This is not necessarily relevant since I have not played for more than ca 20 minutes before saving.
  • I get crashes in sandbox mode, with a single victory condition and with multiple victory conditions.
  • I sometimes get the crash directly when I zoom heavily in and out and scroll wildly (crazy behaviour, I know), but this is not always the case.
  • Overheating does not seem to be an issueaccessing menus do not seem to generate a direct crash since they will work fin in the interval before the crash.
I have tried reinstalling, which didn't help.

I see that quite a few users are having similar issues, and I was wondering if these issues have been tracked down.

I got the same message while I was playing, but only once so far immediately after attacking an enemy space station in the middle of construction. As soon as my ships started firing I got the "Distant worlds has encountered a problem windows has to close the program blah blah blah" message. I chose to ignore the message (moved the window to the side and continued playing as if nothing had gone wrong), saved the game after blowing up said station and taking the colony, and then clicked "ok" on the error message at which point the program closed. Wierdness.

I did that too for some time, ignored the message and played on. But I noticed that my civilian Fleet started to behave odd / stopped doing anything. I can also save the game and reload, but the error comes back every few minutes. Already uploaded the savegame to the ftp. I'm sure this will get sorted out soon, there's no doubt about the quality of matrixgames support :D

Thank you for uploading the save files, they are a tremendous help in chasing these things down.

Played thru about 10 years and no problems. Now all of sudden the games CTD. Don't know why. Was waiting on a contruction ship to finish but keeps crashing before completion. Dual core machine, x64 vista, 1 Terrabite ram memory, graphics card Radeon HD 3200 -desktop.

Titanwarrior89,

That sounds like something we would like to see a save file for, to see if it's one we already fixed or not. Do you have a save that crashes if you load it and let it run for a while? If so, please upload it for us per the instructions in this forum. We may have already fixed the issue in the first update but we won't know for sure unless we can check your save.

Regards,

- Erik
