I havent played the game long enough to give a true first impression (due to some problems with the galactopedia, it seems to be just me). It seems to be very good though! However, I can already say that I got tired of the music (sorry Elliot). In particular some of the tracks are very annoying. Any suggestions to change it (perhaps the Homeworld sountrack, which was great)?

Dump your own MP3s in the Distant Worlds/Sound/Music folder.

Wouldn't you have to rename your mp3's first though? I see the Action 1 and action 2 files, so, I reckon they are played once "action" happens on the screen. ;)
