Little lost in first game LOL.

Post by malkuth74 »

Decided to buy this and purchased it and played my first game. When you guys say things are automated I guess So I just get messages every now and then. Hey should we build this? How about we do that.

Everything was going fine and dandy it seems. I had fleet on automated too. But for some reason I thought you could still build you own fleet when this was turned on. Anyway just everything is kinda confusing. Build this ship, that ship, this ship lol.

Go to war with this race, send this fleet. Why only 1 fleet we have tons of ships.. we should have more fleets. More wars do this do that. LOL. WTF?

So I was at war with 2 races at this point. Both were pretty weak it seems, but for some reason all I did was follow what my advisers said. Send fleet 1 to take such and such... Ok no problem. Playing along and then I start to wonder what the hell happened to fleet 1. SO I go and look at them, well they are all sitting in space without any gas and being preyed upon by the bad guys. I was like ok.... WTF is that about. LOL.

Seems to me the automated part of the game is pretty stupid. Lucky for me this was just a test bed game to see how things worked. Guess I will turn off the auto fleet thing since that seems to suck. Remember not to go to war now until I know what the hell is going on.

Start over tommorow and see what happens. But so far interesting game.

It gets better as things fall into place and start to make sense. My first game was very confusing but I took the time to get a good understanding of the game concepts and slowly I became very impressed.

One thing to remember it can't be played like any other 4X it is really treading new ground and over time can only get better.

Personally I think automation is very clever. With regard to your fleet running out of fuel, is it possible you missed the message at the top of the screen? When a lot of things are happening it can be very easy to miss stuff. In the options screen you can set the "out of fuel" message to appear as a popup which should ensure you don't miss it again.

For me the best way to learn the game was to do the tutorials and RTFM.  Then I played with everything set to "Make Suggestions" not Automated.  That way I got to see what the AI thought I should be doing without it just doing it behind the scenes.
