You can use regular subs to transport. The unit must be in strat mode. Your sub must have a capacity to carry one of the items the unit has( some subs have only 18 capacity and can not embark any item that I remember)

I have 2 australian units which has been push out of Rabaul by the japanese invasion. There are now on a coastal hex. I try to evacuate the remnants by sub. (Lark unit is a elite commando bataillon and an airforce engineer unit)
Strategic mod is requested to load the units (At least it's what is written on the unit load screen) but it does not work.
By putting these units in move mod I have loaded one fragment in a sub, but the other sub has not been able to load the second unit.
The following turn several subs were in the hex but none of them was able to load something.
Obviously there are several factors which are interferring with this simple operation but I dont know them: load capacity of the hex, aerial thread, size or equipment of the unit, others.... ?
Any advice ?

AFAIK, you can only load one sub at time in same hex/base.

You can only transport a very smal part of the unit with a normal sub.

For example you can transport a "machine gun" and from this smal part you can rebuild the hole unit later.

You can not transport a "suport" part .... so it is not possible to transport an Air Headquarter for example.
