Retrofitting / Removing mining stations

Post by FerretStyle »

How is this done? I need to get rid of all the default crappy ones I started with and replace them with the ones I made that have guns.

As far as I know, it cannot be done at all.

When I had problems with mining stations leaving their planets due to a bug, I tried deleting them with the editor. But I didn't find a way to remove a station that way either. This doesn't mean that there is none, I didn't try for long.

It seems that the editor is pretty useful for this, actually. Just go down and click erase item, then you can target and delete a mining station.

Was hoping for a proper way to do it, but I guess that is just about the same thing that happens when you scrap a ship so whatever [8|]

FerretStyle is correct. Use the editro. Just because it can't be done with the game, CodeForce gave us great tools with the editor. Just use the eraser, the first one to remove the mine. Make shure you save before you do this so just in case you don't erease anything else by accident.

I like the ideas of having lazers on mines. I never thought of this. Great idea to beat those pesky pirates.

Hey, thanks! As I mentioned I didn't spend too much time looking for a solution in the editor. I am hoping there will be some standard in-game way eventually. I need the editor only for stations that are bugged and not doing anything but blocking the planet from working miners.

Right now, using the editor to 'upgrade' mining stations is a sort of cheat, as the AI can't do it either. The real problem with such options is that once you have a benefical tool, the AI empires would need a sensible way of using that as well, or they will fall back further behind the human player.

Whether upgrading a mining station is benefical or rather a waste of constructor time and resources, is another question, though.

I like the idea that has floated about of having the next available constructor handle the retrofit
Infact, we could even allow the Private Sector to purchase (ie. Build) a couple of constructors to do it automatically

That's a good idea.

As for the AI not being able to do this.. I'm not sure that's imbalancing at all, since the only real benefit is to have a mining station that can defend itself. A mining station that cannot defend itself will be destroyed and replaced anyway. So the end result is (should be) the same.

Unless, of course, the AI never builds mining stations with defenses in which case it might end up replacing them more often. Also, I imagine allowing them to do so might cause silly things to happen like AIs going to war with eachother over having built armed mining stations in the same system. [:D]

I would find this to be kind of funny actually lol

PMC's....ye that'll be the day, not only do we have monsters, pirates, and mean space aliens...but our own civilians are starting wars to now

and YES PLEASE   a refit button for every station that isnt a port, its incredibly annoying not being able to update defence and custom stations (like my research citadel or shipyard)

and while their at it....custom station automation please, let them accept the massive orders i take
and while their at that, a central place to order ships + let me select a point in space and build them nearest to that
