Night

Post by dstone11 »

(just looking at this game again after years away)

I noticed that several West Front scenarios are real night scenarios now, e.g., Hold Until Relieved. But the ones I looked at have Visibility 1. I'd guess the original scenarios had Visibility 1 because there were no night rules yet? But that when they were converted to real night scenarios, they should have had much larger visibility?

"The default Line of Sight during a night scenario is variable between one and two hexes. However, LOS can be extended by a Gun Flash and the presence of a Star Shell out to the limits of the scenario's weather conditions (See Weather Chart). Hexes affected by Star Shells, or that contain six or more wrecks, are defined as luminated." - MCS-Manual103.pdf

Check out pages 71-72 of the CS Manual for more explanation of night scenarios.

Understood -- but the visibility limit is the limit at which you can see gunflashes (or hexes illuminated by starshells), right? (i.e., the out to the limit of the scenario's weather conditions). So with a visibility of 1, you can't actually see any gunflashes/illuminated hexes???

(and that's why I wondered if the underlying visibility should have been increased)

Correct. Nobody increased the underlying visibility of the existing stock scenarios. Must have been an oversight.
