XP rendered useless?

Post by panzers »

What have they done to XP? All of the sudden everything is unplayable. Can anyone explain this? I got rid of 7 because there is almost no game that I can play now. Now that I have XP, once again, there are no games I can play.
Can anyone explain this? To give you a better idea, when I start to load a game, it completely disappears like nothing ever happened. Microsoft has effectively destroyed XP. What bastards! No wonder Bill Gates left the company.

You cannot play any of your games on Windows 7? I have Windows 7 64 bit and there isn't a game I know of that I can't play. Hell, the other day I even got Stunt Car Racer (1989??) running.

Hasn't that always been Microsoft's S.O.P.? [;)]

I'm not sure what you're referring to, I'm still running xp with SP 3 and I'm playing games like I always have.

My XP works nicely (well, as nicely as a windows system can run [:'(])
Probably the problem is just with something on your computer and not related with a global conspiracy [;)]

XP can't use Direct X10...thats as much as I know. I only found that out a few weeks ago so I upgraded to Win7.

However most games still only use XP the only game I know that was vista only was Men of War.

List the games your having probs with.

A good way is to buy another hard drive and have XP on it...then you can still play all the old games that don't work on Win 7...have Win7 ionstalled on the other hard drive for all new games...simples' (pun on a commercial in the UK)

My Win 7 64 bit works just fine, like my XP SP3 before it.

I like my Win7 Pro 64bit...it runs all my XP games....except one game which uses TAGES DRM...but I could care less about that. Since I got my Win7 I have decided not to now allow any games with DRM like Securom, tages, eLicense - I don't have any problems. Panzers, what game are you having problem with ?

Another vote for global conspiracy! It's obviously an insidious plot to pre-sell windoze 8, with an always-online-only-via-Interblech-Exploder DRM!

I suppose it could be a bad reinstall of XP (i.e. forgetting to format the hard drive to rid oneself of all of 7), but global conspiracies and denials and finger-pointing are much more fun to "discuss" here. *grin?*

Yep, sounds like a bad install.

Panzer, reinstall XP and make sure you format the drive this time [:D].

Hate win 7. Its a modders nightmare. I used to do alot of unpak-mod-repak game files including scripts and data tables. Its a constant fight now with win 7, so many added steps. I think XP was the best OS after all the SP. As mentioned, anything not running under Xp is likely related to Dir X.

@panzers, it probably wouldn't hurt you to reinstall direct X, it may fix some things esp missing DLL files:

But the global conspiracy is more fun. *sigh*
