Hmmm...I like it

From the first clash at Manassas to the epic confrontation between Lee and Grant, the Brother Against Brother series will bring new levels of historical detail and realism to the battles of the Civil War. This regimental-level game, created by the developers of the award-winning Forge of Freedom, builds on that game’s acclaimed tactical engine, adding scrupulously researched orders of battle, high-quality map graphics, command and control rules reflecting the numerous challenges faced by army commanders, and plenty other features. Beginning with The Drawing of The Sword – which recreates the pivotal opening battles at Manassas , Wilson ’s Creek, Mill Springs and Williamsburg – Brother Against Brother lets you refight the Civil War from start to finish.

Hmmm...I like it

Being a englishman my interest in the ACW is minimal (though its far more interesting than the ECW).

I read an AAR on the FoF and I really liked the look of the tactical battles....production etc is not for me....battles are.

So this maybe the first ACW game I've bought since Sids Gettysberg....

Excellent!

By the way, two of our first four battles, Williamsburg and Mill Springs, occurred in the rain, so you should feel quite comfortable playing them. (And for those who don't like the slowed movement and less damaging volleys caused by rain, there will be no-rain scenarios. I'll just question the manhood of anyone who plays those.)

Yes and no. Yes, it's turn-based, but no, it's not the same system. In FOF there was a specific turn sequence, and you had to wait until a unit's turn came up. In BAB, you click on units in whatever order you wish and move them around. Fighting takes place after you and your (real or AI) opponent are done moving, with the computer determining targets and initiating volleys and return volleys.

This approach, I should note, is historically based, since in the Civil War units would almost always fire at the enemy units that were closest to them. You wouldn't have a regiment ignoring the guys a hundred yards away to fire at some other guys two hundred yards away (which is possible in FOF). So the challenge for the player is to maneuver his units in the way that will bring the best results when the series of multiple volleys and counter-volleys take place.

Sounds good...a new game mechanic is always welcomed in a wargame, if it works, as it can add more tactical thinking.

What can say, all i read sound interesting at least for game engine, i am not a big fan of ACW but dont find it not interesting (i expand now my taste for example i go to ancient/medieval battles) i follow the game and expect see a good engine because with a good engine is possible move it to other wars like napoleonic (Peninsular campaigns sounds great for me) period or wars in XIX century in Europe.

PD: waiting more information about the game [&o]
