Hey Hard Sarge,
If I may ask: can you power it on ? (is power supply working at all) When you power on what do you see on the screen, does it go through the book sequence ? If nothing and assuming you have a desktop you might want to take out all the cards and put them one by one (only the minimum like video cards/ make sure hard drives are connected well) and go from there. Could be the memory as well...try taking them out and put one stick in at the time. Hard drive is not necessarily lost unless it was starting to make some weird noises before the computer went down...just some suggestions

Again, Ron? What the hell do your dogs do to the computers when you are at work?
You've had more computer crashes in the years I've know you than Gordon Brown has had public relations fubars.

the Dell XPS screen comes up, get the fill box about 1/3 of the way (it is 1/3 when it pops up) and just hangs there with the fans running
I was hearing some clicks, but thought that was from the Vid Cards (that is the main issue) (or was)

can't disagree with you there, but really seemed to have bad luck with this one, crossfire vid cards were worthless, most of the crashes sound like they are linked to the vid cards

Nice to know our politics makes press in US these days...
I have a cunning plan, My Lord
RE: Looks like i may be done for a bit
The clicking sounds you hear MIGHT be from the Harddrive trying to read a damaged sector that your OS need to boot.
If you can get into the BIOS (ESC or F1), then you have a chance to get a Linux live disk running that MIGHT repair that damaged sector.
Hopefully you have a good backup of the data that is on the disk.
A good quote in the IT Support:
Real men do not take Backup... Real men cry a lot.[8D]
edited for typos.

Ok so it's the Dell boot sequence that fail. Have you done any hardware changes to the system recently ? Anyways try this: reboot the computer and go to bios, assuming you can get of course. Once you are in then simply re-save the configuration and exit the bios and reboot. Once it boots see if it hangs again...if yes then there could be a hardware conflict. Check if you have too much dust inside the computer, perhaps the case fans are not working well, perhaps the video card is too dusty. Make sure that CPU as the heat sink properly attached. It could be also the hard disk has failed...

RE: Looks like i may be done for a bit
Can't get to the Bios, hangs too fast
no, no changes
the inside heat has been good, got a program that watches that, the cards looked good/clean
(of course, the next one, I wanted to look into water cooling, just in case)
(only, didn't want to be looking at one this early)
(ahhhhhh, I was down to the last battle for Dragon's Age II)

You can time it...reboot the machine I keep hitting the F2 (think that's the bios key). Just keep pressing the F2 key multiple times as soon as you reboot...
Are you sure that the CPU/Video cards fans are ok ? did you check ?
