Pilot Questions

Post by vettim89 »

Looking at the Editor I was wondering where the pilots come from when the game loads. Have a bunch of questions.

1. Most air groups only have a few pilots assigned to them. Where do the rest of the pilots come from? Is there a roster somewhere that is not accessable from the Editor?

2. The only field that is editable in the Editor is EXP. What determines a pilot's skill levels. This is mostly aimed at the pilots that begin the game on map

3. Is there a standard set of skill levels that new pilots coming out of the pools start at? Is it the same for all nationalities? Is this editable at all?

I feel like I am missing something here

2) I think skills are assigned based on the type of aircraft the group is flying.

So for Medium Bombers you get Ground Bombing, and if the plane has a torpedo device (like the G3/G4 do) then you get Naval Torpedo and Naval Bombing skills too.

The actual values scale to the actual pilot experience.

3) Pilots drawn afterward are assigned skills depending on what group they get put into, and their experience. So 40xp pilots put into a Fighter group would get Air and Defensive skills at near 40, and others lower.

So the base EXP level of the group in the AE Editor determines skill. For example, the fighters assigned to Shikoku at games start have a base squadron EXP of 79 IIRC. So most of teh pilot in the group will appear with skills levels built around 79 in Air, Defense, and Strafing. Am I understanding that correctly?

That alos means somewhere there is a table of pilot names to be randomly assigned as requirements dictate. Am I understanding this correctly?

I dont know about names, but yes, thats correct with regards to experience. I assume since "named" (ie those listed in the editor pilot tab) pilots can have a set experience level, they ignore the group experience setting.
