AI Questions.

Post by gijas17 »

OK. Just bought DW and love it but right now in my first game Im finding the AI doing some things I dont understand.

First I love the fact that in other games that are similar you can be a space empire and go on a quest to take over the galaxy one colony at a time but in this game I find it very hard to do since diplomacy hinders you from doing so. In other words I start attacking colonies after going to war with a certain empire and then half the known galaxy declares war on me and then I get colonies revolting which leads to a civil war and then a split empire - back to square one. So what are some tips to prevent this other than to agree with their subjection to my empire because even though they are subjected they still declare war on me again later saying I have ships in their territory? Last time I checked if an empire is subjected they have no power to make crazy war declarations on you and are basically slaves to your empire. Should I just make them a protoctornate?

Secondly, which government type is suitable for forced galaxy expansion? Im playing as a democracy so I assume this is what's hindering me with my goals of galaxy conquest? If playing as a war-like government maybe my citizens would be more accepting of war and my conquest?

Thirdly, how do you or can you completely destroy an empire? I tried destroying an empire that revolted from my colonies and formed a new empire in the proccess but after bombarding their last existing colony my current empire revolted in a civil war and the game crashed to the desk top? Is this a bug?

And how do you get colonies or empires to switch over to your side that I found happening from time to time? Not sure how this works.

Lastly, I really want peace until Im ready to declare war and want more control over where I attack and when I attack. I have the game on beginner automation but have the war settings and military missions set to the AI suggestions which I feel is good since if I want to decline a suggestion for declaring war, attacking, etc. I can but Im not sure if this is what I should be doing. I've learned the game over the last few days to the point where I understand how things work mostly but if I turn off the automation in these areas will this be too much micro management for me to handle? Im mean this game is daunting with its scope but I like the feel of control in decisions the AI suggests like a real ruler would.

government for forced expansion, anything that lowers war weariness. or if you are lucky and find the secret government in exploration, switch to that. i like military dictatorship. democracy isn't going to work for bombarding planets and doing war

getting colonies to switch.. you can use agents and incite a rebellion at a colony. it will especially work if you have more population in that system, but large colonies aren't easy to get to rebel, and a colony with a ruin (development bonus) on it is not going to switch either

i have the auto set to off for military suggestions most of the time. i play small small maps so it's really no problem for me

not sure about the rest..
