Poor zoom performance and hard to read text

Post by jbni »

Getting this in current 1.0.4 patch and in the latest beta, also.

Zooming in and out is very slow and choppy. Turning off nebula effects helps a little, but it's still pretty bad. I have a CPU meter that displays on my keyboard; the CPU is nowhere even close to maxed when this happens. (25% on one core, idle on the others.)

My virus scanner is set to NOT scan on access, only on scheduled scans. Disabling it entirely doesn't help.

Shutting down my assorted taskbar items (GameJackal, AnyDVD, Virtual CloneDrive, mouse / sound card driver panels) doesn't help.

Also the text in the tutorial is hard to read. It's not just that it's small, though it is, it looks like it's badly scaled, as if my LCD was at a non-native resolution and scaling the screen, but as far as I can tell the game is using 1920 x 1200. (It appears to be a maximized window, rather than a seperate screen with its own resolution?)

Is that text that way for everyone, or is it just me?

Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit, Phenom II x4 940 CPU, 8G RAM, ATI Radeon 4850. DXDiag attatched.

Gotta agree with the poor zoom performance. Is there any way to get it smoothed out or at least be able to zoom to where the mouse cursor is. Accuracy is not that good.
Huh?

Funnily enough, I have no slowdowns, except when I zoom in to the closest possible zoom.  The game takes a second or two to react, and my framerate drops.  Strange that the closest zoom does this, and no other.  Fortunately, the closest zoom in unavailable from the mousewheel zoom, I have to physically click on the +zoom button to get to the closest zoom, so it's a very very minor issue for me.
