is there a strategy site

So i bought this game to play against my friend online. He absolutely slaughtered me and got me so pissed off that i must know how.
I charged a building from 3 sides with 8 squads he had 3 inside i got into the buidling and lost all 8 squads and only killed 4 of his men. WHAT!!
Also we kept switching from allies to axis on the same maps so i could judge how i was doing. i put a machine gun in the bushes and had another one just north of it so that thier cross fire would intersect where i thought he would assualt. He did and i took out his first squad. he than laid smoke to cover the northern mg and 2 squads crawl all the way to my other mg and over took it. it took him a while but it seemed realistic and his men never stopped advancing. however on the same map with him on defence doing the exact same thing. when i sent my 2 squads forward they didnt push forward they just laid there until they died. when he assualts his guys always move forward when i assualt my guys take fire and imediately hit the ground they dont move anywhere just lay there to die. He says its nothing he is doing he just lets his guys fight and he's getting lucky but im no idiot when it comes to strategy i just need help understanding the game. Unfortunatley my friend is someone who would rather win all the time and never share info than to help me out and have some even battles. he'd never admit it he just says im not sure why your guys do that.and also oh im sorry did you say my 1 sqaud wiped out 4 of yours darmn i missed it was doing something else iwonder what coulda happend its annoying getting raped asking for some help and having them act as though they havent got a clue all the while laughing behind your back.

So i guess my question is. is there anywhere on the net i can find a strategy guide or a website that talks about strategy and the different units and how to get them to do what you want. It seems the game comes with zero documentation they just assume you know what everything is and how it works.

There used to be Close combat strategy guides that fans put up but I'm not sure any still exist.
 
There's a pdf manuel in the install but...
 
pretty much don't send 8 squads running at 3 emplaced.  Better to leave them in cover and start shooting.  You'll burn a lot of ammo but you won't "General Haig" your men.  when attacking use supressing fire, morters, armour MGs even rifle fire at the pinch to make the defenders keep their heads down.  
 
In many ways fighting a campaign is easier and more realistic.  In a single battle you're focused on beating the enemy, in a campaign your focus should be on taking ground and putting the enemy at a disadvantage for the next "day"

To successfully attack.

1. lay down suppressive fire.
2. Cover your advance with smoke
3. have a command team close by.
4. Use bounding/overwatch
