Some new stuff coming ...

Some new stuff coming ...

Post by Marshall Ellis »

Hey guys:

Just a little preview of my awesome graphics guy and what he has completed for our classic scenario if we get the green light to do this...

This is a shrunk JPEG so a little fuzzy but I think this will be cool...

Wow Marshall, that is excellent. I hope you get the ok to use this map. I see it as a great opportunity to get some of those die-hard EIA players into the Matrix/Outflank game. However, if you release this map, I think expectations will be high that the game plays much more like the original EIA than it does now. There are a few things that should be looked at if you really want a classic scenario to play like the classic game:

1) Host option for file exchange for all non-siege land battles (will require the "done and have AI complete this battle" button added to battle screen otherwise this will be too slow, and I strongly advise that a trivial battles like process be created i.e. of the ratio of factors is 5:1, then the existing standing orders code is used, but there are no PP losses for the battle).
2) Ability to by-pass garrisoned depots (we used to have this code, and then we lost it)
3) Ability to give a standing order to a depot garrison to destroy depot and retreat to a city (if there is room) or otherwise surrender as soon as enemy corps enters the area (i.e. so enemy corps can opt to move on).
4) Make it the default that minor country garrisons can only be placed inside their home country, but allow a host option to allow minor country garrisons in other areas (as they are now). Include a warning about the maximum number of garrisons that are allowed should players opt to allow minors outside their home country (so at least they know what they are getting into).
5) allow capture and conversion of captured depots, if they are in supply

Ideally, you could also add the following, but these are not necessary:

1) Dardanelles control
2) Leader retirement in certain years
3) change to Prussian corps strategic rating in 1810 (maybe add a 2:1:1 leader to Prussia in 1810 instead)
4) British training
5) Reduced naval movement for large naval stacks or fleets transporting corps.

DB:

I hear ya BUT this still has some testing to be done! We're populating the DB for the map as we speak and should be ready to test soon BUT we still need some approvals in place before we can release...

I am very glad to hear you are getting some help with this (at least I assume that is what "we" means). This is game is a big task to juggle.

Do consider the upgrades to make it more EIA like (when you get the time). With the new original map, you might find some new "old" players.

Agreed.

I have a new guy AKA (FNG) that has been behind the scenes for a while now slowly working through the classic stuff for me while I've been trying to keep my head above water.

Making it more EiAish is my goal. Wasn't the intent for 1.00 but we listened and learned LOL!

according to me, would be nice to have something between the two map, graphicly I mean. A 60$ game played on a cheap jpeg like that ? Would be nice to have something in the middle of those two.. like simple and clear map, but with enhanced graphics..

Well, they certainly can't please everybody..... but I would really like to see the ability to edit the map. That's probably asking too much though.

Well, hang on because this "cheap JPEG" was done only for your previewing. The actual map is a 24bit BMP file BUT we cannot upload a 24meg Bitmap to the forums.

Hi Marshall
how are things going with the classic map? Will the lawyers let you use it?
