An OOB observation & question

Post by Warrior »

Has anyone noticed the US M3 SMG sounds like a rifle? The sound for the Thompson is 507, for the M3 it's 0. If I change the sound for the M3 to 507 so it will sound like a .45 SMG, will it still work when someone plays a scenario I design?

Will it still work? I'm not sure what you are asking.

Personally I'd prefer that the M3 sounded like a smg rather than a rifle for sure. The Thompson had a faster ROF but hey that's small stuff.

I'm not gonna flame you for that.
If something's not working you might want to tunk it a dite.

I mean, if I change the OOB in the scenario I design, will a player hear the new sound? BTW, there are a number of SMG-type sounds that would be better than what the M3 has now. I'd just pick the one I like best.:D

Default sounds of weapons classed as primary infantry are hard-coded to the HE kill of the weapon. You will also notice that some weapons such as riflex5 will sound like a SMG for the same reason.
The only fix for this is to assign a sound to the weapon. This will overwrite the default sound. Unfortunately any sound you place in your oob will not be heard by a player using any other OOB because the weapon attributes are according to the OOB used by the player.:(
They struggled with a ferocity that was to be expected of brave men fighting with forlorn hope against an enemy who had the advantage of position......knowing that courage was the one thing that would save them.

Thanks, that makes sense now that I think about it.

MD hit this right on the head, the problem with the M3 is that it has no specific sound asscociated to it(I just looked) so as stated it relies on the game code to assign a sound according to class, which for the M3 it is Prime infantry (a rifle sound) Changing it in your OOB's for scenario creation isn't going to allow anyone but you or someone else that has updated their OOB the hear the correct sound.

Not entirely correct.
If the weapon of size 1 and with class Primary Infantry had a HE Kill rating of 4, it would be assigned a smg sound.

Your right again, for some reason I thought the HE rating was 3 for a SMG which is why it wasn't making sense on why the M3 wouldn't produce a SMG sound due to it's 3 rating. I usually don't dable much with OOB's because of all experts within these forums, I guess I should check my notes more before inserting foot into mouth.

In a related story, I've also had heavy weapons with the "misc. small arms" sound. Looks really weird when you see a huge fireball, and hear "piff" "piff" "piff" :p ;)

If I ever hear it again, I'll make a note of unit etc. Right now it's not much information, just an oddity.
