Amphibious Assaults?

Not yet having purchased BftB, I am curious if it is possible to create a scenario involving an amphibious assault. Would the units start on the beach or what?

I had to simulate the crossing of the Sauer River by the Germans on December 16th as an amphibious assault within the limitations of the game mechanics and it works pretty well IMO.

Basically the Battalion HQ and line companies appear as reinforcements sans heavy equipment and supply and very low cohesion. In the case of the Sauer Assault the Germans don't get any heavy equipment (heavy mortars, IG's, etc.) or resupply until they can get a bridge across the River. During the night they get the Regimental Base in a reduced capacity so that they can get limited resupply until the bridges are built but things start to get dicey after a few days as far as ammo and basics are concerned. So yes, it can be simulated.

We plan to refine this into an actual amphibious assault for the Normandy game, but that's in the future.[;)]

Normandy game?! Is that an announcement or have I just not been paying attention? :)

But I am anxious about the way the system can handle high density of fortifications and minefield.

More, IMHO, the fighting and firing process in the first hour of a D'Day scenario isn't the concern of standard Command'ops unit. I mean, company and even platoon cease to fonction as normal combat and command structure in this chaos.
It's just bullshit !
