Post by colorful »

what's the strategy of the scenario kursk 43 for German[:)]

In this secnario , the USSR have the double armies then the Germanys,
and the rate of the weapens' reinforcement is also faster then the Germanys.

Can German be win? [:)]

en` l have another question.

liking that map , one hex only for 5km , if l place two regiment in one hex , it may be having the stack(in orange) , but if I only just place one , it may have not enough force . How can I deal with ?

sorry for my poor English.[:'(] [:D]

You can't unless you defend in depth. One regiment dug in on the front and another dug in a hex behind.

Be careful on overstacking penalties. The light (yellow, orange or red) won't show up if only one unit is in the hex; however that one unit might have so much equipment that it's registering as overstacked to the system. The way to determine this is to divide the unit into two or three sub units and see if you get an overstack light. You can then recombine the unit.

Well . . . that's a cute little trick! Don't remember seeing that in the manual. Thanks for the tip.

No. Unstacked units do not suffer combat density penalties, regardless of their size. (They should, but they don't).

Do the overstacking penalties be very serious? [:)]

Overstacking can result in significantly increased losses. I'm not sure of the math behind it but the idea is that an overstacked hex represents an area in which the density of targets is higher than normal - in modern parlance it becomes "a target-rich environment". Weapons, vehicles, and men are packed in tightly enough that the opponent finds it hard to miss when he shoots into the hex. Exactly how much of an increase in casualties there is depends on so many factors that there is no simple answer; you have to experiment and determine if the losses are worth the gains.

Hope this helps,
Ron

Oh, shite. I always thought that was the case. Or just assumed it was. Good to know.

And it becomes really stupid when your unit is attacked, broken down and retreated. Then it overstacks and follow up attacks are twice as deadly.

like this , the north of the kursk.I want to attack the A place , which that place have two infantries . B,C,D each have one infantry.

Image

each infantry has 60+ halftrack and 60+ truck
and has seem that the overstacking penalties in yellow.
Image

if i stack two infantries in one hex , then overstacking penalties in red.
Image

Image

-----------

How can I do then?

1) just use the three infantries to attack one place ,and that were no overstacking penalties.

2) ignore overstacking penalties , 6 infantries attack one place at the same time .

----------

In 1) , i think that only three infantries may not have enough force to attack , but no overstacking penalties.

In 2) , having the overstacking penalties , but the amount of the armies are more than 1).

Red overstack = 2x losses

Better to lose a quarter of 3 units than a quarter of 6 units.
