Moving overland through jungle vs amphib assault?

Post by Vanguard »

As the Allies vs ai, I have a reasonable amount of Japs at Milne Bay to clear out. I have earmarked the US 32 Div to do this - What do you guys suggest is the best way of getting the 32 Div there? I am trying to decide between either moving from Port Moresby through the 4+ hexes of jungle/mountain OR a direct amphibious assault. I have pretty reasonable air cover and the date is 1 July 42. I am not sure of the comparison of fatigue of a jungle move vs the casualties and disruptions of an amphib assault.

Thanks for the advice!

depends on how much time you want to spend. I´ve cleared Buna and am in the process of doing the same with the bases around Lae and marched overland but that takes time. It´s PBEM and I´ve got the time in this area, doing amphib assaults would have been to dangerous. Fat/disruption is no problem, neither are supplies, so if you want to move overland, go ahead. But be prepared to spend months for for doing so. Against the AI, I would invade Milne Bay by seaborne invasion, also done that in my PBEM as Milne Bay is the easiest target. Going round the tip of New Guinea is another story.

Against AI, I too would plan an invasion, after subduing Lae Rabaul, etc. Much quicker and worth the potential losses.

Against a PBEM, I probably would go overland, or do a ferry out a few hexes and march the rest.

Either way, at this juncture of the game, you have the time to do either.
