double clicking on name behavior

Post by taltamir »

when double clicking a ship or a spaceport the game hangs for several minutes as it compiles a list of every single object you own. it should open with an appropriate filter. For example, if you double click a freighter, then it should open with the 'freighters' filter. If you double click a colony ship then open it with the 'colony ships' filter. etc... if you open a space port, then the space ports filter. this will massively reduce the wait time.

Also, "construction" should be split into "planets", "construction ships" and "space ports". There is already a category just for space ports (which was added at user's request) and it is great, really helps a lot with the slowdowns.

Furthermore, if someone clicks on the "ships and bases" button, it should open with a filter preselected. I suggest colony ships since: 1. it is the first in the list. 2. there is usually a small amount of them.

Resupply ships would also work well because there are so few of them normally.

I Agree that some more intuitivness in these sorts of area would help and polish the game up a bit more and make a great game even better to play.[:'(]

This has absolutely nothing to do with intuitiveness. Currently it opens with the filter "show all". the only thing improved by the suggestions I made in this thread is a massive reduction in slowdowns. Not freezing for a minute when you double click something isn't "intuitiveness of the GUI".

At the moment, I literally get "this program has stopped responding, do you wish to terminate it or wait for it to respond" whenever I double click something. I have to click wait a couple of times until it actually finishes. When windows tell you that, and its avoidable, then you have a problem.

Sounds like you need a faster CPU. I never have those issues and I play with 1400 star games.

My System: intel i7 865K, 4GB of DDR3 ram, intel X25-M G2 80GB SSD, nvidia GTX260, win7 64bit (clean install; performed recently)... My computer is significantly faster then average. And how far do you play those? My current empire is 1082 planets.
