Too weak to withdraw?

Command Ops: Battles From The Bulge takes the highly acclaimed Airborne Assault engine back to the West Front for the crucial engagements during the Ardennes Offensive. Test your command skills in the fiery crucible of Airborne Assault’s “pausable continuous time” uber-realistic game engine. It's up to you to develop the strategy, issue the orders, set the pace, and try to win the laurels of victory in the cold, shadowy Ardennes.
Command Ops: Highway to the Reich brings us to the setting of one of the most epic and controversial battles of World War II: Operation Market-Garden, covering every major engagement along Hell’s Highway, from the surprise capture of Joe’s Bridge by the Irish Guards a week before the offensive to the final battles on “The Island” south of Arnhem.

Too weak to withdraw?

Post by decaro »

Sometimes after I issue a command to delay, or simply withdraw, I get a message to the effect that the units invovled are too understrength to accomplish their mission!

The fact that my units aren't strong enough to hold their position IS the very reason I'm withdrawing them.

I trust this will be fixed in the patch.

I believe it's just a warning and has no effect on gameplay, but it is rather disconcerting. I think I remember seeing it for a rest command during beta testing.[:D]

Arjuna should confirm this.

Indeed a odd message. When a unit hits a level in which it is not longer combat capable it will in essence disingrate. Having read a number of books about the battle in question, in fact I am currently reading Corps Commanders of the Bulge, by Harold Winton, there was a finite breaking point of units. Once achieved, the units in question typically devolved into subcomponents usually making for the rear. No enemy influence AT THIS POINT, was nessessary after hitting this finite limit to compel this result.

That's what I was hoping to avoid as these units weren't at the point of "routing"; although attrited, they were still combat capable, and should be able to withdraw/delay w/o any unnecessary warning messages to the contrary.

On reflection I agree it would be better if we ignored this warning message for withdrawals. It will have to wait till the second patch though. I'm not holding up the first patch because of this.
