Hexing the Save Game (not for the Feint hearted)

Post by Andrew Williams »

The illustration below shows you how to change some of the save game charactersitics.

You can download a free hex editor such as frhed.

You should only work on a backed up file as you may do irreperable damage to your saved game.

Open your hex editor

From your hex editor open file and browse to your saved game.

Black box 01 = Play as Germans 00 = play as Allies

green Boxes Difficulty Settings 00 = Elite 04 = recruit (00, 01, 02, 03, 04)

Red Box Timer
2823 = 15 min
E02E = 20 min
5046 = 30 min
7869 = 45 min
a08c = 60 min

You can also edit most of those settings using CCReq.

I used this editor a lot for H2H games with original CC5. Does it work with LSA?

Changes to the save file format to track things like blown bridges and BG/Formation points would prevent CCReq from working with LSA.

Here's an alpha version of an editor. This version only allows to edit basic stuff but if some have additional information I will enhance it. This version opens the selected file and if you save it it creates a new file called oldname.save As this is an alpha I do this on purpose.
Should work with LSA save games.
A huge thanks to vonB who has helped a lot.

Just download, extract and run.
Unfortunately it needs the DOTNET Framework 4. Only supported OS is:

Windows XP SP3
Windows Server 2003 SP2
Windows Vista SP1 or later
Windows Server 2008
Windows 7
Windows Server 2008 R2

You can get the Framework from here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=0A391ABD-25C1-4FC0-919F-B21F31AB88B7&displaylang=en
If you need a different language just select the appropiate one on the Microsoft page.

And one of my many questions. Outside of the savegame it seems that some important settings are located here: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Strategy 3 Tactics\Close Combat\56 Does CC LSA use every binary value and is there some public information because I'm thinking about adding some of this to this program. Helps to disable videos or change resolution before starting the game.

Very nice start on a save editor berndn. Possible you could add a 10 second game timer option? Its useful for testing purposes when you'd like to 'fast forward' thru some battles in an operation/campaign.

You mean that the battle only last 10 seconds? This version has 10 seconds battles. Ignore the 15 minutes shown in game.
Here's a changed alpha.

Bravo on the editor development. I was trying to find a copy of the CCReq tool to post some screenies of what it can do with map deploy areas and VLs but had no luck. I'm not sure how far you are intending to go with this but that's officially on my wish list at least.

I need a lot of information regarding the file structure of the save game file as well as strat layer, map bitmaps etc. A lot of this information must been either public available or could be published by some guys here to add more functionality.
