Starcraft 2

Post by doomtrader »

I played first part something like 7 or 8 years ago and really didn't get too deep into it.

Does anybody already bought Starcraft 2? Is it worth to be bought? The price is pretty high (and it's only one campaign now), so I'm wondering is the game quality adequate to the HYPE made by Blizzard?

Old game new skin?
I have the impression that gemplay is the same but with updated graphics.
Might wait for the trilogy to complete itself and buy the bundle... or not get it at all.

I still have old Starcraft and Broodwar discs.

Judging by reports from the beta, it's the same game, with an updated skin (and not particularly impressive, at that). The fact that they're releasing one campaign isn't very impressive either.

Probably not. I'm waiting for Medal of Honor and Call of Duty: Black Ops with an outside eye on Mafia II.

I think dollar for dollar Diablo II was my best investment. Like Starcraft it's free to play online. Been playing this game for six years. How many computer wargames can you say that about?

With me it has been Warcraft II. I bought it when it was first released and I still fire it up from time to time.

I am still undecided as to whether or not to buy Starcraft II. Just buying the initial release and the two expansions will cost $180. I could buy War in the Pacific - Admiral's Edition and a couple of other Matrix games for that amount of money.

This is the problem.... As I get older many games give the "been there done that" feeling. Maybe I need to take up knitting.

LOL that remark just made my day [:D] knitting...

well anyways, concerning Starcraft, my experience with quite a few RTS games is that they are intended and developed for a ... a new and younger generation. I do like to play a few short games but in general they are too fast paced for me, by the time I've discovered a few things about the game, the AI is already blasting my units/camp with whatever doomsday weapon the dev's came up with. So I start the game with aaah's and oooh's seeing the all new eye candy and awesome graphics, but I *end* the game with a heightened pulse rate and blood pressure, possibly even cardiac arrest, because it's too fast for me.

So yeah, maybe I should take up knitting too. [;)]

Well plenty really. Combat Mission, Steel Panthers to name a couple. How long has Take Command Bull Run been out? Sid Meier's Civil War series Gettysburg & Antietam. All those been on my hard drive since released. If you count X-Com as a wargame Defender and Terror as well then. Then there's still Medieval Total War origional with the XL mod that is just awesome good. Oh and there's Empire Deluxe, Pacific General, Panzer General 2 now that GoG rereleased it and a few more.

Nothing could be farther from the truth. I took part in the beta and I can tell you it's plenty popular. I'd be willing to place a wager that it will sell more units than any other PC RTS game that's been released ever.

I agree with Terminal...oops I mean Terminus. I walked past that display and the thought never crossed my mind to buy it. But, now if WitP or BftB had of been on that display and 1/2 price I certainly would have stopped.

I cant believe people are not only acepting what Activizzard is doing, but some actually seem to think nothing of it.

Well, Matrix,....just remember,....its now ok to release a wargame with only one side playable,.....then make the other side playable with a whole new game sold for full price.... you can now sale WW2 games in 5 different installments,...one for each major country in the war..............

Just imagine the profits if in order to play as Japanese or USA your customers would have to buy two copies WitP:AE......................

EIDT- PLEASE dont tell EA,.....we will start seeing 32 versions of Madden with one team playable each. 112 versions of NCAA with one team playable each. Like racing games?..hope you only like 1 certain driver........or car.

I'll pass until the inevitable 'Gold' or 'GotY' edition is available; I'm getting rather pissed off with the 'pay for half a game' routine. No doubt, as with Bioshock 2, the other half is already on the disk.

I'm actually pretty pissed off about what Blizzard did here. However, I did put half down on the game and am not sure if they'll give me my money back--especially having taken part in the beta. I do enjoy the game as I did the first one, but they're charging way too much for just the one campaign. I'm not sure how much multiplayer I'll be taking part in as I get my ass kicked constantly. Plus, the kids playing this game are very immature.

Truth be told, I don't really know if I'm interested anymore. I just bought CC:LSA, Mount & Blade Warband, and BfTB a while back. I'm just not sure I'll get into this one.

But the fact that some of us aren't into it doesn't mean it won't be the most popular RTS ever released. Our opinions on whether we think it's good or not will have 0 effect on sales.

It is great so far. And I don't understand the comments about one side being playable. You can skirmish against the AI in single player with any of the three sides or you can play multi player with any of the three sides.

The game sold 1.5 copies from pre-orders and walk in's and digital sales. I would say it did just fine.
