Adding new units

The Seven Years’ War was fought across the globe and called by some the first “World War” as virtually every major power participated. In the center of events was Prussia, almost constantly at war and lead by the now legendary Frederick the Great.

Relive the exciting and trying days of Frederick the Great in Horse and Musket: Volume I, the improved and expanded combination of the previous Prussian War Machine and Prussia’s Glory titles. Horse and Musket: Volume I is a reboot of the successful Horse and Musket series, including not only two solid historical titles in one package, but also many new game features, a powerful new editor, and a complete graphics overhaul to an already acclaimed gaming system.

Adding new units

Post by PrinzHenrich »

Hello, I have made one experimentum with new editor. As i quess it is also posible in volume I editor.
I add as a unit RABBIT little withe and grey bunny.
It is an answer for everyone who asking about historical uniform for each regiments.
I have copy one unit folder, and rename it for ex. PrussiaRabbit, then I open in Gimp one file from this folder ex. PrussiaArtillery_line and deleted textures with crew and guns; then paste there small icon of a bunny. Then save.
Next step was rename two file (the same file were i change textures) PrussiaArtillery_line.tga to PrussiaRabbit.tga and rename PrussiaArtillery_line.txt to PrussiaRabbit.txt, If youdon't change txt file nothing will happened.
Last step is deleted UnitDefinitons.bin. Open editor and put there unit with PrussiaRabbit uniform :)
AND it is looking like that:

Yes, I think it is really not a miracle for a skilled user of a painting program like you!

And it is really ONE good answer for everyone who is asking about historical uniforms for each regiment.
The other answer could be a combination of 3D-field-units and details for every unit on the battlefield...

What do you think? [8D]

That is correct.[;)] I love it. And I am owning the cavalry book too. So 90 % of the prussian troops can be covered with the two books. (no artillerie or Jäger....)
For more questions of little uniform / flag details I prefer the books from Hans Bleckwenn: Die friderizianischen Uniformen 1753-1786 / Die bibliophilen Taschenbücher.
Very authentic are the colored paintings from Adolph Menzel (1851) in the reprint "Die Armee Friedrichs des Großen in ihrer Uniformierung"

Higher quality could be reached with pictures from the Men-at-Arms books from Osprey or with the "Uniforms of the seven years war" from John Mollo/ Malcolm McGregor, but only for a small group of units....

I have some colored reprint sources about the Austrian uniforms. A nice addition are the books from James Woods "Armies and Uniforms of the Seven Years War" and some old collections on DVD for the other states.

A challenge would be the British army for Minden etc. ....

Uffz go to the site: http://www.kronoskaf.com/syw/index.php? ... ssian_Army
for each unit you have flags and uniforms very good quality and actual.
Because it is free Matrix can use it to this cards or recompilated (this is only unniform) to good wear soldiers :)

Tx for the link. The listed sources are interesting too!

I want to use the best pics for a possible mod, like it is usable in other game-mods f.e. in HPS.
Maybe we can combine our informations..... [;)]

Sounds very good. But I think, with this engine the wagoons and bagage would be only for a historically correct view...but without any game effect(?) ...it is a pity [:(]

It would be like artillery unit but without able to fire, controled by AI troops will try to destroyed them (like soldiers want to stolen goods on the bagage) and would take place on the hexes (we know about all problems in XVIII armies with transport marching and moveing with soem hughe bagage)

Yes, that is exactly what I am missing in other wargames too. Of course it is not part of the direct battle...so it seems to be not so interesting for other players...but the problems in the back-country with blocked streets are historic indeed.

Maybe some battle-maps should be greater for covering the surroundings of the pure battlefield and the complete troops from both sides should arrive from the back-country on the streets and alleys ....

Yes, I am owner of this game (... so I have seen, that the mapeditor is a little bit limited....a big map like f.e. the napoleonic 1806 Jena AND Auerstedt-Szenario or Austerlitz would be impossible to create)

Sounds good. So it would be possible to simulate an individual advance. So the players can imagine Fritz' sentence better: A failure in the deployment is not correctable during the battle ...

Ok, this is first attempt of making waggon unit. I have no experience of that so it is low quality.

Hi there,

I have found an old version of a prussian powder wagon for the artillery (later versions after 1744 were step by step changed in wooden roofs with wooden sidework)
