Blank Screen

Post by Painless »

After the game intro I get a blank screen and a cursor. Nothing else happens and the game does not run.

I have the latest drivers and version of Direct X and am running under Windows 7 on a 64 Bit system, Intel Core i7 3.33 GHz processor with 12 GB of memory.

Any advice as to how I can fix this would be much appreciated!

Sounds like video codec issue.  (WMV format)

Hold down ctrl when you click on play.

An options box will open up.

Turn off videos.

Try to update your video codecs then turn video back on.

Thanks for the tip Andrew - it was not the videos, as it makes no difference whether I turn them off or not. If I choose windowed view, then the game runs OK, if I run full screen, I get the blank screen and the cursor - I'm not sure what is causing the problem, but at least I can now run the game, as long as I avoid a full screen display!

Many thanks. [:)]

Ok

just run window at your FULL screen resolution, that way you can multitask.

I also get a blank screen unless I play in windowed mode. I'm running winXP 32 bit SP3 with a Nvidia 8800gs card. My monitor's native resolution is 1400 by 900. Is there anything I can try to tweak it? All my drivers are updated. I get the exact same issue in The Longest Day.

If I use nvidia scaling on my monitor I don't have to play in widowed mode, but it still doesn't fill my screen and the resolution isn't too clear. Maybe that's just a limitation of the game engine, but if anything can be done to fix this it would be great.

Figured it out. Nvidia scaling, 800x600 mode, and it fills the screen. Won't play at 1400x900 for me, but at least I'm fullscreen.

You know that playing in windowed at full screen resolution you have practically got it at full screen... and yet you can multitask?

If I play it in windowed mode at 1400x900 it's pretty short of full on all
sides. I do see the taskbar on the bottom. Is there a Windows setting I can
change to make it bigger than what I'm seeing and still run close to full screen?

Andrew, I see you are running Windows 7.

Are you running the 32 bit or 64 bit version?
