AI won't cross bridge...

Close Combat – Last Stand Arnhem is a highly enhanced new release of Close Combat, using the latest Close Combat engine with many additional improvements. Its design is based on the critically acclaimed Close Combat – A Bridge Too Far, originally developed by Atomic Games, as well as the more recent Close Combat: The Longest Day. This is the most ambitious and most improved of the new Close Combat releases, but along with all the enhancements it retains the same addicting tactical action found in the original titles! Close Combat – Last Stand Arnhem comes with expanded force pools, reserve & static battlegroups, a troop point buying system, ferry and assault crossings, destructible bridges, static forces and much more! Also included in this rebuild are 60+ battles, operations and campaigns including a new enhanced Grand Campaign!

AI won't cross bridge...

Post by dandechino »

Just purchased this game and went straight to the Last Stand Arnhem operation. WTH? The germans position a few half tracks and armored cars along the south river bank. They run one armored car across the bridge which will sit just in front of the buildings. Everything else remains on the other side of the river refusing to budge. Am I missing something?

So I guess I made it work... Set my skill at Elite and set the AI's at recruit. All of a sudden they find their bravery to cross.

Actually, if you play it more often, you'll find that even then they won't cross. I've even gone so far as to increase the AI squad sizes to 10 (a 50% increase in strength) whilst limiting myself to a single squad. Sometimes the AI still won't attack. Why? Because the game designers broke the AI and haven't fixed it.

Anyone ever mess with these settings in campaign.txt?
Axis Recon BG vs. Allied Inf. BG shows a 'probing attack' battle plan....but based on commander's aggression it could be redefined to a 'defend' battle plan....

Graebner is a +2 aggressive.

Run a quick 20 operation loop test of this scenario and see how many Graebner attacks in.

Yeah Adam you were right. They still refuse to cross despite needing the 10 command points on the other side of the river and having 3 armored cars and one light halftrack. The only thing that changes is the infantry will cross and i will begin to shell them with my light mortar while they are exposed on the bridge and one armored car will dance around right before the buildings. I wonder if the vehicle pathfinding is preventing the rest of the vehicles from crossing. My games always end like this on this battle defending as Allies.

Yah, its been a problem since CC2, I never saw the problem in CC1 where they had an "everything attack" button which presumably the AI was making use of. All I can say is keep complaining about it and hopefully one day they will fix it. Im personally refusing to buy any more games from the series until they fix it.
