A New Observation and You Can Now Play The Germans?

Post by Adam Parker »

I just finished the Western Desert Campaign. I slogged through some fun times and strange situations. It was a rough experience at times with the AI kicking me.

New Observation

So I finish an entire campaign - but how did I do? What score did I achieve? What can I aim for to do better next time I want to play that campaign. Won't tell you what I did see to spoil the experience but I want a performance appraisal! A summary at least! Anyway I will miss the dust for the travails of the Bocage...

I Can Play the Germans Now?

Finishing the Western Desert has seemed to unlock the Normandy and Bulge Allied Campaigns but I now see something new. There's also something called "Allied Special Assignments" and "Axis Special Operations"?

What gives? I click the Axis Operations and I'm now able to command an Axis force chosen by myself with point limits and tasked to "hold off the Allies for 18 turns"! Cool!

But where did this come from? I saw nothing in the recent patch announcement. Is that why I can now go straight into the Bulge too?

Thanks,
Adam.

As soon as you play a couple of the desert camapign scenarios the Normandy and Bulge campaigns open up. At least that's what happend for me.

The "Special Operations" came with the patch. They're fun and can be nail biters. [8D]

These guys really need to hire a marketer!

People are screaming to play the Germans before they buy and "2 new single player scenarios" really doesn't tell the story does it! [:D]

Thanks too Barthheart - the value of this game just went up for me [:)]

Waiting for my copy to arrive in the post, cannot wait to get started. Not being able to play the germans would normaly be a deal breaker for me, however, this game looks and sounds that good it doesn't seem to matter anymore.

I played the Germans in Panzer Command all the time and miss playing them in the main campaigns here since I understood german mechanized warfare and equipment far better than allied or soviet for that matter but Im learning that in this game it doesn't matter as much as PC. However, I did notice the new special missions and Im just glad they have included some form of German play here.

If you can play on an iPad, does that mean I can install and play on Linux? [:'(]

I think,The campaigns aren't campaigns in the way you expect. The are just seperate scenerios in the same theatre. Your troops do not carry on, they don't carry over experience or losses, and aren't linked together in any way. So the lack of a German campaign doesn't mean much. I balked also, at first, but the "campaigns" are meaningless. Their really aren't any.

Thats disappointing. Was looking for a SPWAW or PG2 type campaign. Oh well....

True vonrocko, but the game is still "fun". I too wish the units would carry over into another battle. Even the old "Close Combat Cross of Iron" had units carry over from one battle to the next. One would think in 2010, they would be able to figure that one out.

I still don't regret the purchase.

You know, not having core units that carry over is having a pleasant side-effect combined with the way the scenarios are designed:

1. Not having core units allows the player to be more aggressive than in other titles, as though friendly losses can count as scenario objectives, more often than not it's inflicting destruction on the enemy and holding/capturing ground that matters.

2. There seems to always be enough turns in a scenario to try to get things done, meaning that coupled with this aggression, you realy feel like you're fighting a battle rather than husbanding forces.

3. There always seem to be reinforcements that come in for both sides at unexpected times countering for over-aggression. Nothing like more armor when your entire mech force is a smoldering mess! (btw I zoomed in very close in a battle just before and boy, the carnage looked amazing - I really respect these artists).

4. You still seem to get that motherly feel for your favourite unit in a scenario - particularly when you get to choose them before the start. I was really proud of a bazooka team of mine just now - they clobbered an SS attack for ages until the AI completely wiped me out - baz team and all [:D]

Very cool gaming here.

This game has to go East Front next with an official expansion
