Mod Announcement: "1 to 1 Mod"

Post by GaryChildress »

OK. I've decided to undertake a project to mod CC:LSA to create something which I don't think has been done before with CC. At least I don't know of it ever having been done. Maybe it has. At this stage I'm calling it the "1 to 1 mod".

Basically I'm going to create a ficticious battle in World War II and create a ficticious campaign map for it. I'll be using tactical maps already in existence, so I won't be making any maps. The battle is going to be between the US and Germans. I haven't decided yet if it will be between a US regiment vs. a German regiment or if I will do division level for each side.

What I intend to do is take a REAL OOB for a US division or regiment and a German one and recreate it man per man, vehicle per vehicle. Each battle group will represent 1 company out of that regiment or division. When you fight a battle you will be fighting as a company not as a battalion or whatever the BGs currently represent.

There are a couple preliminary questions I have before undertaking my project:

1. Is there a limit to the number of battle groups each side can have?

2. Is it possible to create a new campaign map?

I'll get to the question of "how" as I come to them but these are two questions which I'd like to start with.

I guess I should first try to determine to what extent CCLSA can be edited. Looking at some of the other posts in the modding forum it looks like modding abilities may be rather limited. [:(]

You can mod LSA that way. I'd quibble with "real" OOB if you mean textbook OOB. Even in garrison, actual OOBs rarely match the ideal version.
    "...
  • A “StratMap.txt” file has been created to allow easier editing of the strategic map.
  • A “Uniforms.txt” file has been created to allow easier editing of soldier colors.
  • The size of the Scenario Editor strategic map has been increased to display larger strategic maps.
  • The maximum number of Battle Groups has been increased to 64.
  • The strategic map has been expanded to a maximum of 64 individual maps with 128 possible road interconnections.
    ..." p. 82

Sounds good. Something like a valley in the hurtegen forest?

The maximum number of Battle Groups has been increased to 64. {plus BO units}

Thanks for the reply. Maybe I'll call it the "textbook OOB" mod or something. What I'd like to do is represent the respective units at full strength (at least as best I can. I don't know if you can put 12 men in a team or not in CCLSA). It would be a sort of ideal world encounter between a textbook US regiment versus a textbook German regiment. The campaign map would be split in the middle with both sides deployed on opposite sides of the middle line. There would be room for each side to push into the territory of the other.

A good idea would be operation "Comet", most of the same map.s

Sounds very cool Gary, Def would give a 1:1 a try

1:1 infantry Divisions would work with a Hurtgenwald Campaign IMO.

I think I'll do 1:1 with a regiment, that's 27 companies a division would have 81 companies. I think that would be too many.

I've been doing a little experimenting with Paint Shop Pro. This is sort of an idea I have for the general layout of the campaign map. What do others think? Basically it would be for a regiment on each side, regiment vs. regiment.

Here's zoomed in at the standard 100%. Basically this is what the map would look like in the regular campaign screen.

I cleaned up the hexes a little. I just can't figure out how to make decent looking forests in Paint Shop. Does anyone have any ideas? I've tried a number of effects and none of them look very good.

It's a great idea. I was thinking about doing something similar after the OMG mod.

Cool idea Gary.....

As for hex graphics, the Campaign Series has all kinds of hex terrain in simple to edit .bmp format...

I can send 'em if you need 'em.

What is the strat map scale?

I'm not sure what to make the scale. I'm thinking each hex should represent maybe 5 x 5 miles. Basically each hex will contain one company (or another one stacked). What do you think the scale should be if each hex will contain a company battle group?

A "1:1 mod" will necessitate scaling the strat map accordingly. In the ETO, on the offensive, an entire US division might only occupy a 5 mile front.

The maps in The Lorraine Campaign provide various example of unit frontages.
