Movie about a forgotten war
The upcoming movie "Amigo" seems to tackle a war that not a lot of people know about. The Philippine-American War.
The movie supposedly points out similarities with the war in Vietnam and Iraq (low intensity insurgency, winning hearts and minds, etc).
But the Americans kinda succeeded in the Philippine campaign.
Wonder how this movie will turn out. Any thoughts?

Two words... San Miguel.
"Lose" is the opposite of "win." "Loose" is the opposite of "tight."

RE: Movie about a forgotten war
I plan on seeing it if I get the chance. So will my wife I bet, who is Filipino. I researched this campaign thoroughly. What's amazing is that there were cases where both the American and Philippine forces were both hounded by head hunters while fighting each other.
It was kinda cool though to see the preview and understand both languages spoken in it.
There was a lot of bloodshed in those years but if it would not have happened I would not be looking forward to my 20th Wedding Anniversary on Sept. 1st and I would not have a great bunch of in laws that love me. So yeah, I'm glad that war happened.
I'll have been married 20 years this coming Sept. 1st??? [X(]

I eagerly await the "Amigo" film.
I was a U.S. Peace Corps Volunteer in the Philippines 1978-1981 (hence my "berto" moniker), returned there with my Filipina wife for another three-year stint (as a private citizen) 1987-1991, am seriously considering retirement in the Philippines a few years hence, and speak/understand several Filipino languages.
San Miguel? "Ito ang beer!"
Need I say more?

Same here berto, I'll be retiring in the Philippines also. But Tagalog is the only language there that I speak. So I'm tri-lingual. Tagalog, English, and bad English! [:D]

I recall a dinner I had with my wife's family ~30 years ago. Around the dining table, we were speaking five different languages: Pilipino (Tagalog), the national language; Ilokano, the regional (Cagayan Valley) lingua franca; Ibanag, my wife's and her family's native tongue; Ifugao, the language of a sister-in-law; and not a little English (the latter intermixed with all of the above).

If and when we retire to the Philippines, in part making up for the loss of my beloved Early Music, I absolutely require two things: a decent Internet connection; and war games, particularly about WWII Pacific, and especially WITP:AE. Without war games to occupy my non-Internet hours, I think I'd go batty!
