Game limited size of ships.

Post by tjhkkr »

I had a game that would not let me advance my ship size beyond 230. Which is fine, and was fun... I was doing all manner of crazy things to my destroyers to make up for the problem. [:'(]
By the way, my hats off again the designers of the game. [&o]

(A) What do you guys do to your ships to keep up with local enemies.
(B) I was trying to ratchet up my science areas to increase the size, but I could not find the right combination of stuff.

[I do not think this was a bug; I think this was part of the game; cool yes, and a fun problem to over come, but now: how to overcome it?]

This must have been a bug. Were you not researching construction tech?[&:]

To keep up with opponent designs, it depends on what you want. A long term solution is to research shield tech. With strong shields your ships can escape from battles until you can regroup and attack with more ships. The short term solution is to throw as many lasers on the ship as possible and try to outgun your enemy.

If, however, you're unable to build anything larger than a destroyer, then I think the game would be extremely difficult once you start to come up against enemy cruisers. Strength in numbers would be the only suggestion I could make here.

As Igard stated, researching Construction Tech will eventually give you better
and more advanced Ship Yard components. The advanced components will increase the
size of ships and bases (away from colonies) that you can build with each level.

In addition, you can also keep in touch with other races who may be willing to
trade/sell/barter a higher level Ship Yard with you.
Shields are useless in "The Briar Patch"...

In the first few games i played, i also had a problem getting better shipyards. Seem there are quite a few techs to research before the first shipyard tech show up... Later in game it's no longer an issue, new techs get researched faster and you get the opportunity to trade for it (unless you are at war with them, that is). It's in early game that it hurts.

I do not think this was a bug... because the verbage said, 'Cannot build larger than 230 at this time.'  (Made it impossible to carry a LR sensor on a ship... or it least to carry it AND ANYTHING ELSE [:D])

Yeah, I was building research facilities along all 4 tiers as quickly as I could.  Granted I have research/development set on the slowest setting.
Again, it was a fun thing to have happen.  Still... I have never encountered it before.
