Sound files help

Post by Smeulders »

Does anyone know what the sound file is that plays when you open up a ship information screen ? (So the screen for a single ship) I find it rather annoying that it keeps looping as long as the screen is open, so I'm looking for a way to remove it safely, if I find it that is.

I don't recall which number it is off hand.  The sound files are just .WAV files with the extension changed.  If you go into Windows Explorer and click on a file in the SOUNDS folder, you will get a pop up asking you what program you want to play it, select a sound player (VLH is a good open source player if you don't want to use the default on your system).  If the check box at the bottom asking you to associate this file type with that program is checked, it will always open with that player if you click on a sound file (but will not affect the game at all).

You can go through the sound files until you find the one that is bugging you.  Either delete or rename the file and you won't hear it in game again.

You can also replace game sound files.  The sound playing engine in game will take WAV, MP3, and at least one other sound format that I forget at the moment.  Just make sure the new sound file has the same name as the old one you're replacing (you will have to delete or rename the old file) and you will have the new sound played instead of the old one.
