Problem with naval icons

Post by josant »

hello, this is my first post
I find a possible bug with naval icons; First i enabled nuke atacks in the event engine. When you want to do a nuclear attack with a ship that have nuclear capability and have a naval icon (Naval task force, heavy naval, medium naval or light naval) it only can do a normal attack, not nuclear attack. But if i change the naval icon by the missile artillery icon i can do nuke attacks, but the movement of the unit works bad.

Finally i test the ICBM equipment with many icon types and the only icons that can make nuke attacks are missile artillery and air icons(naval attack, jet fighter...) other icons like artillery icons can not make nuclear attacks with the ICBM. It not work in 3.2 and 3.4Beta

My ask is why i can not do nuke attacks with ships (obviously they must have a naval icon)?

I'm pretty sure that's working the way it is designed to. I'll look at it for 3.5. With that range you could almost simulate it with an off map land or air unit!

I can confirm that you can make nuclear attacks with naval units. No idea what problem josant is having.

Josant,
Can you please post or email the scenario you're having problems with, and I'll take a look at it.

it is a test not a scenario, i do this test because i want to create a scenario whit have ships with nuclear weapons.
i attached the file

I modified the battleship adding more range and make various units with different naval icons and one unit with missile artillery icon to see that with the same equipment but different icon can do nuke attack. (this unit with this icon after do the attack, have a attack order until you cancel it)

It looks like you should set the initial number of nukes to equal to or more than 99 if you want anything besides air and SSM units to be able to use them. I couldn't figure out where that is in the editor, so I couldn't test it.

in the test scenario i set the initial number of nukes to 3, but if i change it in the event editor by 99 the scenario do the same that with 3, also the 12 battleship unit (with missile artillery icon can do the attack)

It worked for me, I changed the 3 to a 99 in the event editor.

I've attached it.

You do need to right-click and hold if you're using the new control scheme to get the menu to pop up.

Ok. I dowload the file and it worked for me. Now I know that I must set it to 99 to make this atacks with ships.

Thanks Ralph.

When I built my test scenario for this, I just picked 99 out of the air for no reason. Just lucky I guess.

It's possible Norm intended this: Artillery/naval units might only get nukes if the release order was very broad.
