Based on Slitherine’s popular tabletop wargaming system by the same name, Field of Glory now comes to the PC in a faithful adaptation of this acclaimed miniatures wargame! Without the calculations and measurements required for a tabletop game of Field of Glory, the PC version accurately represents Ancient and Medieval combat where you make the important and fun decisions on the battlefield. This forum also supports the Rise of Rome, Storm of Arrows and Immortal Fire expansions to Field of Glory.

Hi all. Is there no way to manually transfer e-mail files to opponent in Field of Glory with out going to the automated web page? Playing a different game that allows both options.

No sorry this is the only way. Why would you want to? The other guy must have the game and a connection or he can't get e-mail.

Thanks for the speedy rely Lain. Not a problem using the automated system. The other e-mail game I play I’m host 99% of the time, so used to doing the file transfer. So far friend has not got the game yet, so auto system is needed for me.

Just a thought, with no option to manually transfer files. There is NO multi player option to play game if automated system were to clash. Or heaven forbid should cease to exist.

I would like to add my agreement with Scott.  I've lost count of the number of computer game companies who have gone belly up over the years.  If it wasn't for game crackers and hackers, I would no longer be able to play what I have paid for.    I have bought all the FOG digital releases to date BTW.

So the concern is, if slitherine / matrix were to fold, how would I be able to multiplay over the net.  Also, I would like LAN play, so I can play against my sons.  Yes I know I could hotseat, it's not the same.

Do I have to buy 2 copies, 1 for each computer?  More digital bullshit?  Never had to buy 2 copies of monopoly or risk did we.   Just a general gripe against computer game publishers....

We have no plans to add an external e-mail system and no plans to go anywhere! Board games are fundamentally different so any comparison is not relevant I'm afraid and the license you are buying is a 1 user license. This is because they are digital and too easily transferrable rather than a physical boardgame. This is the same with any and all software and I'm sorry if you don't understand that but its a fundamental part of how the software industry works and is not going to change.

A polite warning - If you use bad language you will be banned.

Fair enough. I didn't expect any changes from a software publisher. I do understand it has become the norm, even if I don't agree with all of it.

Ooops! sorry about the "bad language". I am an ex patriot brit, living in the states for 20 years. I sometimes forget that some people are more easily offended. Would you kindly point me at the list of non-allowed "bad" words that we are not supposed to use. I couldn't find it. After all, if you are offended by certain words then surely it's only fair to publish that list. That's how rules and laws are supposed to be. Ah, I forgot this is a corporate site and not subject to normal expectations.

I should shut up..... I'm being an ass. Ooops! (is that another bad word)

Well, since Slitherine and Matrix have merged , if one goes down they both do and wargamers are in some serious trouble then....You cant worry about the apocolypse since you cant effect if /when it comes[;)]

We actually have multiple servers with at least 3 providers so it takes quite a lot to take us all out :)

Hi guys,

We do hear you on that. There are no plans that I'm aware of to put in the development time to add a separate PBEM system to FOG, however in other games such as the upcoming War in the East we have parallel systems. WITE supports both server-based PBEM and traditional e-mail exchange PBEM. I think the server-based method is much more convenient and will be the community favorite, but the classic PBEM is there as a backup. It does require more development to support both though and in some cases we may just go with one or the other.

Regards,
