Ready to throw my life away

Post by VMF 214 »

Hello gentlemen and at least one lady,
So I bought the game months ago and have been pouring over the forum everyday 2-3x a day to get a handle on this monster. I have told the kids dad won't be around much and told the wife to start looking for a boyfriend as I won't have the time for her or her needs.
I have followed som AAR's, I think I know some of the glitch's (search arc's not working) and printeg some of the very helpful cheat sheet's that are out there. Now I am not a history buff like I see most of you are. I am not a strategist, logistics guru or tactician. I enjoy war games and since I was a kid have always liked WWII games and movies.
So I am going to play the AI as the Allies and will probably be invaded on the west coast by the end of '42. I can't even think about a PBEM now because with the one'sa I have read you guys know your stuff. I am going to have enough trouble getting the Tracker up and running let alone battle someone who can think and come up with evil schemes and operations.
Anyway just wanted to say hello to everyone and let you know WITP-AE has claimed another soul. [&o]

Thank you all for the warm reception.
I wouldn't worry about my wife she didn't seem too bothered by the comment of finding a boyfriend.[:D] I think I actualy saw a slight smile [:-].
One question I have about search arcs...I know it is not working as intended and if I understand the thread correctly The arcs are more or less non-search arcs and work opposite of what they are supposed to do. So do I just not use them or use them for the where I don't want to search?

Thanks for the help/advice.

VMF,

Don't assume you are going to "throw my life away." That is a bit of an over reaction from a new player. However, as many of us will attest, thing will change. Don't assume all the changes are bad.

I have developed some stock responses to CINC-Home when she starts in on my hobby -- I will gladly share them with you as you embark on your first game:

CINC-Home: You spend too much damned time with that game!
Me: Honey, just think how much money I would spend and how much time away from you if I was in to golfing or boating! Computer games are a wonderful hobby! One of the great things about this game is that I am at home with you and the kids, and not at the bar with all my co-workers drinking too much, eating bad food and oogling the waitresses. Not only am I saving money, I am improving my health and our marriage.

CINC-Home: We don't talk anymore because you are always on the damned computer!
Me: Dear, while it is true that we don't talk as much, haven't you noticed our conversations have improved. Our communication has gotten much better. With more limited time, you now tend to get right to the point and I really listen instead of getting easily distracted while you talk. Since I started playing WITP, you don't have the time to tell me about the tragedy that befell your second cousin's best friend's aunt twenty years ago in Peru, and I don't have to pretend to be interested. It's all about honesty -- and this game has really helped us in that department.

CINC-Home: You waste so much time!
Me: I understand that I spend time with WITP, but I don't think educating myself is a waste of time. I can now teach our children many valuable historical and geographical facts that I didn't know before. The children will really benefit from my investment of time on this historical simulation. Education is a good thing, and helping our children is even a better thing.

CINC-Home: The house if falling apart; when are you going to start doing some repairs! And you haven't cut the grass in three weeks!
Me: Perhaps we shouldn't focus so much on material things. You know, life is not about keeping up with the Jones's. The number one killer of middle-aged men is stress -- it leads to heart attacks and a host of other often fatal conditions. So, I've decided to not worry about those material things so much any more. Playing WITP allows me to de-stress, and that is a good thing. I will live longer, and we will be able to enjoy our grandchildren together. I really look forward to that.

CINC-Home: Are you ever coming to bed? ..... Do you want to have sex?
Me: OK. See, I told you our communication has improved.

Regards,
Feltan

Actually your wife doesn't need a boyfriend, you need a girlfriend.  If you had a girlfriend, they would each think you were off with the other woman and leave you alone to play AE!

Ps. Tell your wife I'm sorry.

Don't make the classic married AE player's mistake: Betty, Lily, Sally, Ida or any other newfound mistresses are no substitutes for your wife! Never!

Cheers & welcome,

Moss

Good stuff. [:D]

It helps, too, if (like me) your wife has living relatives who experienced the war against Japan first-hand. She will understand.

Welcome!
If you are playing the against the AI as the allies I offer:
1.)Protect your tankers. Get them out of the DEI and protect them you don't have enough
2.)and speaking of not having enough, you don't have enough of anything for a while. This includes carrier aircraft so use those only when you have to
3.) Build up bases with supplies and fuel to support future offensives.
4.) Yes, the Japanese will "run wild" for 6 plus months
5.) turn off automatic upgrades for aircraft so you can select where your limited upgrades go
6.) Sorry, but you will have to learn pilot training
7.) Remember the part abut not having enough? Eventually, you will have more than enough of almost everything, so don't sweat losing some stuff
8.) sorry about having to sacrifice the life and family, but it really was necessary. Half measures just won't do here

Enjoy!
