Fuel question

Eagle Day to Bombing of the Reich is a improved and enhanced edition of Talonsoft's older Battle of Britain and Bombing the Reich. This updated version represents the best simulation of the air war over Britain and the strategic bombing campaign over Europe that has ever been made.

Fuel question

Post by Vasquez »

A thing what always wonder me. Does a plane use the same amount of fuel after rtb to refuel if you cancel the intercept/patrol?

Or doesnt it matter if you manualy abort the mission or let the unit rtb after its out of fuel?

Hey Vasquez [8D] <S>

I do not have the exact answer but based on my observations and and what I think should or should not be happening I would expect that there is a difference in the fuel burn rate. I would expect that while on Mission status, IE on Patrol to be one burn rate. More or less the Standard burn rate. While engaged with enemy AC I would expect to be Max Usage burn rate and while RTB I would expect to be Max Conserve fuel burn rate. Now haveing played several GG's games I am sure that there are other rates mixed in there as he typically accounts in some way for just about everything. I dont believe that the Matrix crew made a lot of changes under the hood with respect to fuel burnn rates.

Just my thoughts though.

I think I would disagree, I know Harley would also

the hassle I have with answering, is it is two different sets of numbers, one fuel point is a fuel load, but each plane, has a different fuel load and the game tracks that, so I am not sure how the game works out, how much fuel a plane may still have when it lands, since it takes a fuel point to refuel, I do know the planes as the land, will take different amounts of time to become ready, so, kind of think a plane with most of it's fuel, is not taking as long to refuel, but...

Didnt it work something like this?

When a plane is fueled, it uses 1 fuel per engine. Fueling time is apparently always the same(planes are refueled one by one, except overnight you get them all), and all fuel(1 point/engine) is used irrigardless of flying time. Flying time does have an effect on whether a plane needs maintenance or not, however(though I'm likely wrong in this). When airborne, they use fuel at 1x rate when cruising and climbing(and will go bingo when theres just enough fuel to fly home at cruise speed). Within 40(was it?)nm from set target and/or in combat, they burn fuel at 4x rate the normal rate using top speed and will drop droptanks at least when they attack or bounce on something - I'm not sure if they also drop the droptanks if they are themselves the target of a bounce, or not. If they are attacked, they will. Once they're down to bingo fuel they will turn home, and are(usually very) vulnerable. Especially if they didnt happen to be on top in the fight that was still going on, and no planes were left to keep the bad guys busy. Even if a plane is very badly damaged(like a heavy bomber limping home on two engines, at 120mph), it wont run out of fuel, no matter how long it has to fly. If it doesnt crash due to damage, it'll make it home(possibly to crash at landing). I think thats good, as it prevents (especially the Allied) player losing ALL of his bomber force each time they decide to turn back to the target.

Question to Harley and HS: is running out of ammo(heading home due to "winchester"), modelled as well? If yes, do all guns/planes have same amount of shots, or?

as far as I understand it, fuel is tracked, not ammo
