RE: upgrade issues
Hi Borner
did you over write your old (1.07) version of the game with the BETA version or put the BETA in a seperate directory? The game might be looking for the map in a directory that was not updated with the BETA (i.e. it is looking for something in a 1.07 directory that would be there if you over write 1.07 with 1.08, but not if you install 1.08 from scratch).

RE: upgrade issues

RE: upgrade issues
well, I spoke too soon. I deleted and reinstalled the game, then the new patch, and I still get this error
RE: upgrade issues
error I get in the game itself is: cannot open file.\Graphice\maps\eianwstdsmap.bmp When I close the game I then get: Wargame system Engine did not find DEP file. please contact tech support for more details Wargame system engine version 1.08.04 ( full) Any thoughts on this?>
RE: upgrade issues
fyi i reinstalled the game on a second computer and get the same error. NOTE: please email me at borneruv@yahoo.com during the day as I cannot access this site or forums from work. Any help with this would be appreciated as 4 games are on hold due to this. The CD I am running from is the origional 1.0. THen I run the download of the 1.08.04 upgrade after the CD install is complete.

RE: upgrade issues
Hi Borner
I think you have to upgrade to some of the important intermediate versions, and can not go straight from 1.00 to 1.08. I don't recall which are the important intermediate versions, but they are the ones with major database upgrades. I suspect this might be your problem.
In the thread titled "Hey Marshall" in the tech support forum,Marshall suggested going from 1.00 to 1.05 or 1.06 and then the latest version. I don't know if that applies here. Apparently Matrix was to make one of these versions the "golden upgrade", but no one at the time knew if this happened.
If this is the case, and you need 1.05, then you might have a problem, as neither 1.05 nor 1.06 is still available on the website, but you might have it kicking around.
Another post noted a problem because of a windows upgrade.

RE: upgrade issues
if that is the case, it's an interesting problem. If you upgrade computers as I did, then how do you keep the game going? Looks like the only way would be to get a new download of a clean new version from Matrix?

RE: upgrade issues
This could be the problem. Install 1.00 then 1.06.03 THEN 1.08. there were some directory changes and file relocations at the 1.05 1.06 releases.
RE: upgrade issues
can someone post a link to those upgrades? I did not think they were still available

RE: upgrade issues
Marshall, can you get Matrix to make the next version (1.09) a stand alone version. This is a real impediment to new players. Maybe make only a few very small changes to the game (i.e the top Mantis items like 721, 720, 712, 717, 709, 693 and 631) and release it, so this can be done relatively quickly. Or even make no changes to the game, and release it as 1.09 as a stand alone.

RE: upgrade issues
That would be good. At a minimum, if we need 1.06.03 to play, it should be available on the website for download.
And, are you still working on improvements?

I'm watching for 1.08.04 results for now. Taking a bit of a break... :-0

RE: upgrade issues
You certainly deserve a bit of a break (but not too long I hope). I think 1.08.04 is a little rough in places for the execution of the sim dip (for instance the reported lack of skipping with sim dip), but otherwise I think you are 98% of the way from saying this game is done. A score or two of minor items on the Mantis list, and a way for the host to manipulate saved manpower, and I think you will be all the way there (the original EIA map would be a great bonus and would boast sales, if you can ever get the go ahead, (and perhaps a tutorial, prepared by us players however)).

It won't be too long
. I will be scanning Mantis to see what we can do in 1.09 BUT 1.09 will hopefully be a lot of AI improvements!

RE: upgrade issues
Glad to hear it won't be too long.
For the AI improvements, I would strongly reccomend not trying to do too much at one time. Unfortunately the gaps between the last few patches have been long (necessarily). However, for the AI improvements, can you spread it out over several small releases, each with a short time frame, instead of one big one? So for instance, target to release something every month or two, even if only consistents of some very small AI improvements, or just a few Mantis items (previously you have been able to knock off several Mantis items in a day). This keeps things moving, generates press releases, and should be easier on your schedule. I don't think all the AI improvements have to come at once.

RE: upgrade issues
We agree with that!
I mainly want to watch 1.08 and see build needs for 1.09 from the shortcomings of 1.09 i.e. skipping seems to be a miss on my end with the simul diplomacy.
