Making Levee En Mass in the 1792 scenario wiork for EIA

Post by Dancing Bear »

Hi all
I thought of what I think would be a relatively easy to handle the Levee En Mass (militia surge) for the 1792 scenario. I am reasonably sure that just because of the way the database is set up, that all powers have a saved manpower number is in the database somewhere, but only Prussia starts with any or can add to it, so we don't see it. Assuming this is right, the French Levee En Mass could be easily simulated by allowing France to tap into some saved manpower. Either this could be done by (a) giving France saved manpower at the beginning of the game using the editor, or (b) adding a host function to adjust this hidden saved manpower total for all powers, much like the host can adjust political points or money. Option (a) might be easier, but I think is prone to abuse, and I much prefer option (b).
Option (b) would work like this, the French player decides he needs to Levee En Mass. He emails the host before his economic turn, and says I am calling up the militia. The host applies the 3(5?) pp penalty, adjusts the saved manpower value for France, and then sends out a backup to all players. France plays her economic turn with the extra manpower, and builds her militia.

A small change like this could really make the 1792 scenario work pretty well.

Hi DB,

This would be great. You would have to use b) at this point because adding MP to France does not work with the existing editor. You can add MP to any country in the editor. The problem is MP will only show up for Prussia when you start playing the game. When I made 1792 Campaign I added MP reserves to France but they did not show up in the econ phase. The half solution was just to give France lots more militia at the start of the campaign and make him keep it in cities by a house rule until after the first econ phase. Not perfect but it works okay.

Well your observation about adding manpower then confirms what I suspected. The Levee en mass could be done be letting France access this saved manpower using the some of the same code Prussia has, but without any the Prussian ability to store unused manpower. If there is already a spot in the database, then this might be a quick fix.

I would much prefer though if the host could change saved MP, as this is the best way to go. The ability of the host to change saved manpower also gives the host to correct for mistakes (adding some money and manpower is like putting troops back).

Hi DB,

I agree with you. A Host function to give extra MP would be best as it would solve not only this problem but also help when bugs happen and troops disappear. Great ideat! Wish it could be done.
