New Problem Discovered

This sequel to the award-winning Crown of Glory takes Napoleonic Grand Strategy to a whole new level. This represents a complete overhaul of the original release, including countless improvements and innovations ranging from detailed Naval combat and brigade-level Land combat to an improved AI, unit upgrades, a more detailed Strategic Map and a new simplified Economy option. More historical AND more fun than the original!

New Problem Discovered

Post by evwalt »

I just noticed this one and thought I would add it to the update request.

For Draft Pool size......

In the 'Economy' section, the 'Current Draft Pool' amount appears to max out at whatever the 'Combined Pool Target' is. I believe this amount works correctly for numbers BELOW the 'Combined Pool Target' number, but that could be incorrect.

This does NOT mean that draftees are lost above the 'Combined Pool Target' number. Apparently, the game keeps track of this number elsewhere and properly disburses the number and saves any extra. I say this because if you look at the 'Supply' Tab, 'Reinforcements Allocated' Section, it gives the proper number for 'Current Draft Pool' both before and after allocation, even if above the numbers talked about above.

It is fairly clear to me that 'Current Draft Pool' looks at the wrong place for its number (ie. Combined Pool Target instead of elsewhere).

NOTE: In the 'supply' tab, under 'Upkeep Costs by Type', the 'Current Draft Pool' number is also incorrect (ie. looks at the wrong place).

For gameplay, this is not a problem (as the correct number of draftees is kept track of somewhere) BUT it would be nice if the numbers were correct across the board.

And now that I have looked at a few more turns, I am a little confused. If I am reading things right....

It looks like that the 'Current Draft Pool' is a hard number that can not be topped. Any extra is kept in the 'Current Training Pool' and the 'training of draftees' will be limited to an amount to bring you up to this number. Thus it is impossible to create a large pool of trained replacements UNLESS you increase the 'Draft Size.'

Is this the way things are supposed to be? Did I just never notice this before? Might want to double check this. I might have just started a wild goose chase. [8|]

There is an issue with the draft pool numbers when the Levee in Mass upgrade is used. The combined *and draft target) number does not increase by the 50%. It does look like the proper number are actually drafted and are available. The training figure does increase.

Honestly I have always found this part of the game to be the least intuitive and clear (having never read the rulebook).

Does being "drafted" mean they are just starting their training? Or that they are ready to be assigned as replacements? If the former, then why does the replacements window refer to the "draft pool" going down after replacements are allocated at the end of month? I think I know that the answer is that they are just starting their training; but I remain uncertain to be honest, and it would not be hard to make it totally clear without having to make reference to the rules book.

If EvWalt is correct and the pool goes down when you lower draft rate, that is really pretty fricking annoying, and yes I agree my anecdotal observations suggest to me that that is how it is working.

While that is being looked at, why not change the language used in this part of the game too?

Would suggest the following:

Draft Rate: how many new recruits are drawn from the civilian population for training. I would think that it is not ONLY conscription that is being modeled for this time period, and that the use of that word is misleading? I would think that, some of the recruits are from levies or even volunteers, depending on the nation, date, feudal dues level?

Training Pool: how many new soldiers are underoing training for allocation to brigades.

Replacement Pool: how many trained soldiers are available to be allocated to brigades (which I believe is referred to as "Draft Pool" in some portions of text in game at present)
