Port Moresby (early)

Hi, playing the Coral Sea scenario I discovered Port Moresby can be captured before the 15th of May.
2 things must happen

1. You must keep reinforcments from getting to PM carriers station 8 hexes away can do this (unless TF set to do not retire.)
weather needs to allow flight ops.

2. You must keep the US CV from hitting your transports. (weather can do this also)

Have you tried a late (Aug/Sept) hit? If so, which do you think is more likely to succeed?

Hi, No but I see what you mean. I always thought it was not possible before mid June. (but before Mid July when US has too many CV)

I think the IJN can take Port Moresby early. But it requires some luck. The IJN carriers can neutralize Port Moresby. And if Port Moresby is packed with aircraft when it is neutralized, it really helps. But then, they must also take out or at least shield the invasion force from the US carriers. A couple of ifs but possible.

The question in my mind is whether the IJN can hold and supply Port Moresby if they do capture it. I think it would be very difficult to supply. And an Australian invasion force doesn't have to travel far to reach Port Moresby.

I asked that question once, and though no definitive answer was given, it was assumed that supplies only flow from the bigger to the smaller bases.

In 2 PBEM games early "bums rush" has been clobbered twice.
