Can someone tell me how to take advantage of all the Harpoon versions in this package?
What's the use of all these?

For Harpoon fans, this is by far the most definitive collection of any version of Harpoon you've ever played and there is content (databases and scenarios) that just doesn't work with the newer versions but is still available on the older ones, so it's more than just a point of curiosity to have these in the package. We've had many requests over the years to make some of these older versions available for that reason and we finally did, but we decided to put in as many as we could in the package while we were at it. It's also for archival purposes - some gamers have been with Harpoon through all these versions and there's some nostalgia value here as well.

The new versions of ANW and CE included also have some nice enhancements and will continue to be supported, whereas the older releases will no longer be supported after these updates. We are providing free updates to the Ultimate Edition level for previous owners, but those are the last updates for the older releases. H3ANW was released more than four years ago, HCE more than three years ago and they've received many free updates since then, but future development can't continue indefinitely without a new release.

Regards,

- Erik

There isn't much use. I find them a neat way to progress thru the history of the game visually. A few players even prefer capabilities present in older versions that are absent or broken or replaced in newer versions. In my case for the longest time despite owning HC 97 I couldn't stand the windows 95 style interface and played WinHarp with the older Win 3.1 interface.

If you are entirely about stability, HC2002 is probably the most stable version ever.

In the end, for me, it is a nice collection of prior versions of the game; an instant look back in time with mountains of nostalgia.

So you're the one who convinced the Navy to acquire AGM-84E SLAM eh?

How do the DOS versions run?

Do they use a console?

Are there custom scenarios for all version included in the pack?

Downloading awfully slooooowly.

The DOS versions run in DOSBox.  I chose some hopefully reasonable settings for screen resolutions and such (it tries to use a good chunk of your screen if possible without running full screen).  Of course with a little work you can always override the defaults and make your own shortcuts to each version.

Looks like this is only for those who has been playing Harpoon ever since and has some custom scenarios for the older DB version.
I'm not one of those though.

The above was from a post by Erik Rutins on 11/4/10

I have HCE, and was wondering if there will indeed be an update of HCE to the ultimate edition level. The last I see available is 2008.044 from 9/2008.

Thanks.

Westlake, the files for the patch were delivered to Matrix November 12, 2010.  I assume you will see the patch eventually.  Until then you might check out 2009.042 at http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?showtopic=2049 to patch your 2008.044 to very near the capabilities of Ultimate.

Tony, as you know, I have also been looking for the HCE patch.  It is now two months overdue.

I've posted in this and the HCE forum.  I wrote Erik a PM.  And have been totally ignored.

If MG is not going to issue this patch, the least they could do is be honest and let us know.

Or at least give some excuse why it isn't here yet.  Been busy yada yada.

There you have it, it is coming at some point.

As for the why to the old versions, I don't know why but I am glad they did. It is fun playing them. It has actually been a blast.

Heh.  It isn't necessarily coming at some point.  Tony is a nice guy but an optimist.  He assumes.  The main point is MG is totally ignoring posts requesting information.  I even did as you suggested and sent a PM.  No response.  Nada.  Zip.

I still think it's a ploy to get us all to buy HUE.

Am I being stupid here but in the above Flash screen where is the option to launch the latest version of ANW? I can see the 'CE' Commander's Edition but not the other main title.

Or does it load from a seperate screen??

The program in post fb.asp?m=2614399 is only for the HC variants, not the H3 variants. You'll want to use the "Harpoon Ultimate ANW Menu" icon on your desktop, then "H3 Configuration" to launch the game (or the start menu shortcuts).
